July 12 Update: Highway 200 near Walker
Update:
Crews continue to work on the east end of the project widening turn lanes and pipe jacking (centerline culvert replacements). Currently, the road is open to traffic, although motorists are advised to slow down, avoid distractions and drive with caution in work zones. The largest traffic impacts will take place beginning July 26. At that time, crews will begin working on the western culvert at Bag Creek and the detour will begin.
Traffic impact July 26- August 8
Bag Creek Culvert Replacement:
- Motorists located west of Bag Creek, wanting to travel east, will need to utilize the detour.
- Those located west of Bag Creek wanting to travel west, will not detour.
- Those located east of Bag Creek, wanting to travel west, will need to utilize the detour
- Those located east of Bag Creek, wanting to travel east, will not detour.
Once Bag Creek is complete, crews will begin working on the eastern culvert at Cedar Creek.
Cedar Creek Culvert Replacement:
- Motorists located west of Cedar Creek, traveling west, will not detour.
- Those located west of Cedar Creek, wanting to travel east, will need to utilize the detour
- Those located east of Cedar Creek, wanting to travel west, will need to utilize the detour.
- Those located east of Cedar Creek, wanting to travel east, will not detour.
MnDOT understands the importance of Moondance Jam and the contractor will not be performing any construction activities during the event. The detour will not begin until after Moondance Jam. The detour is tentatively expected to last from July 26 to August 8. The estimated completion date of the Bag Creek culvert is five working days, and the Cedar Creek culvert is 9 working days.
The reclaim and paving portion of the project will also begin on July 26. Motorists can expect lane closures and areas of loose gravel. To stay up to date on the project, sign up for project email updates on the project website: www.mndot.gov/d2/projects/2021/hwy200-walker.

Traffic impact: Check www.511mn.org for the most up to date information. Currently, areas of the project are reduced to single lane with flagger operations. There is a speed limit of 45 miles per hour as well as an 11 foot width limit. Avoid distractions and pay attention in work zones. Safe travels!
Next Meeting
The Minnesota Department of Transportation will host the next virtual meeting on August 6 to discuss the Highway 200 project near Walker. Join us from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. as members of the project team discuss the project, answer questions, and take comments.

Summary of work
- Reclaim, mill and overlay of a 15.6 mile stretch of Highway 200 between the junctions of Highway 371 Highway 84 in Cass County
- Widen shoulders
- Replace Bag Creek and Cedar Creek box culverts
- Add turn lanes
Highway 200 will be open to through traffic for most of the project. There will be a short-term detour during the box culvert installation portion of the project. Details on the project, including detour information is available on the project website.
Anderson Brothers is the prime contractor on the $10.6 million dollar project. All work is scheduled to be completed by the end of September, weather permitting.
