2021 Construction: Hwy 12 Ortonville to Hwy 59
Whoa, can you believe it!? We’re nearly one month into construction on Highway 12. Crews have been focused on the east end of the project in Stage 1 and Stage 2.
For reference, here are the five stages of construction:
-
Stage 1: Highway 59 to Highway 119
-
Stage 2: Highway 119 to Big Stone County Road 80
-
Stage 3: Big Stone CR 80 to Big Stone CR 23
-
Stage 4: Big Stone CR 23 to Big Stone CR 21
-
Stage 5: Big Stone CR 21 to Highway 75
For Stage 1 work, crews have finished up culvert replacements, and expect to wrap up shoulder widening early next week, along with turf establishment. Some work has already started in Stage 2, too! Crews have begun on Stage 2 culvert replacements and plan to get started on shoulder widening next week.
As crews are working in Stages 1 and 2, local traffic (those who have a destination along the work zone) can expect to encounter short-term lane closures and periodic road closures in the areas where crews are working. Watch for loose gravel, equipment, trucks hauling and crews at work.
For all thru-traffic, Highway 12 remains closed between Highway 75 in Ortonville and Highway 59. Please continue to follow the detour route on Highway 75, Highway 7 and Highway 59.
By mid-July, milling, reclaiming and paving will begin. Those operations will follow shoulder-widening, moving from east to west starting in Stage 1, Stage 2 and so forth.
