2021 Construction: Hwy 87 Frazee to Becker/Wadena County Line
Final striping is done in Section 1 (Becker/Wadena County Line to Evergreen) on Highway 87! Local traffic may still see workers and equipment traveling through the area, and the highway remains closed to thru-traffic.
As for the rest of the project west of Evergreen (Section 2), crews continue shoulder widening and culvert replacements between Frazee and Evergreen. For those who regularly commute through the area, you've probably noticed that the message boards have been changed and the replacement of the larger box culvert between Becker County Road 31 and County Road 33/County Road 115 will no longer start on June 14. Tentatively, crews will start that replacement on June 28. We will share more information once the schedule is confirmed.
During the box culvert replacement, the roadway will be impassable for up to two weeks at the culvert site, just west of the County Road 33/County Road 115 intersection. If you travel regularly through this area, you will need to find an alternate route around the culvert location.
Highway 87 also remains impassable at the Otter Tail River in Frazee, between North River Drive and Main Avenue East.
Work zone safety reminders
Important reminder: Highway 87 is an active work zone. If you do not have a destination along Highway 87, follow the detour or find an alternate route. Access is being maintained for residents and businesses, and flaggers are controlling traffic in areas where crews are working.
Please obey traffic control. Flaggers are there to keep everyone safe. If you have a destination within the work zone, please tell the flaggers so they know to let you through. However, in some cases you may be turned around when it’s deemed unsafe to pass. Local traffic should expect to encounter lane closures, periodic stops and delays. Please plan ahead.
Information for locals
Local traffic on the west end of the project: If you live in Frazee, you can still access Highway 87 in front of the school up to North River Drive. The barricades are up at CR 29/Birch Avenue to ensure thru-traffic follows the detour. The work zone begins after North River Drive. Highway 87 is impassable at the Otter Tail River, between North River Drive and Main Avenue East. You'll need to find an alternate route around the bridge site.
Local traffic on the east end of the project: If you live in Menahga, you can access Highway 87 in town. The barricades are up at Highway 71 to ensure thru-traffic follows the detour. The work zone starts further west at the county line.
