It is top priority to ensure the safety of our most valuable asset that we have at MnDOT – our employees. You may have heard about the facility certification process recently. This helps with keeping us safe. During these difficult times, I am glad to be part of an organization that is going the extra lengths to ensure safety.

The following provides some details about the facility certification process.

What is the certification process?

It certifies buildings to MnDOT's Workplace Safety Program. The process ensures each MnDOT location is properly equipped to operate during the COVID-19 pandemic.

What buildings need to be certified in our district?

Each building that houses employees will need to be certified.

Safety reminder

Safety Reminder

Injury, illness and crash reports should all be submitted within 24 hours of the incident if possible. When submitting a report, remember to complete the report thoroughly and attach any associated documents, photos of damage, crash scenes, etc.

Submit a report through eSAFE

Remember to complete the “My Profile” tab prior to any of the other tabs, unless you have done so previously. You only need to complete this step once.

  • If you experience a work related injury or illness, complete the documents under the “Injuries” tab.
  • If involved in a crash or damage incident involving a vehicle or piece of mobile equipment, complete the documents under the “Motor Vehicle Incident” tab. This would include incidents of debris thrown from a mower.
  • If there are injuries as a result of a crash, then the information under both tabs must be completed; there are also check boxes within the documents to link both documents together in a case like this.

There are links to the previous forms on the eSAFE site but those are to be used only if the site is not functioning properly. Or, you can use them to submit additional information, like a sketch or diagram, along with other items such as the DPS Exchange of Information, Crash Report or photos.

OSHA strongly encourages employers to investigate all incidents in which a worker was hurt, as well as close calls (sometimes called "near misses"), in which a worker might have been hurt if the circumstances had been slightly different. Please note: the “Work Zone Intrusion” tab on the eSAFE site is not live at this time.

Celebrate! Anniversaries, new team members, retirements

Congrats and Welcome

It is no secret that our district has an incredible team. On iHub, check out a list of team members celebrating anniversaries and retirements as well as the new people who have joined our team. Or, you can view the list on this PDF

Face covering requirement and health screenings

Please remember that you must use a face covering while in agency workplaces or while otherwise providing agency services outside of your home. Policy details are here.

Also, any MnDOT employee working at a MnDOT facility or in the field, or employees working from home who go to a MnDOT facility, are required to complete a daily self-assessed health screening.

You must successfully answer these questions before you will be approved to enter the workplace. There are two options for completing the screening.

  • Online: We have revised the previous daily Employee Status form to now include health screening questions. In the new COVID-19 Employee Status and Health Screen Form, if you check “Working in the office/lab/field,” a series of health questions will pop up for you to answer. Please replace any previous bookmark with this new link.
  • Phone: If you prefer, you may call 651-259-3685 to complete your health self-assessment using a touchtone application.

Make sure to always keep your status current: Teleworking, Working in the office/lab/field, Not working (vacation), Not working (sick) or Not working (other).
