Thief River Falls Project Update: June 19, 2020
Highway 1
Motorists on Highway 1 in Thief River Falls will continue to use the detour of First Street West during the construction of three roundabouts between Highway 59 and Kinney Avenue.
Businesses in that area will continue to have access through alternative routes,
- For businesses that were accessed from the frontage road off of Brooks Avenue (Thief River Ford, strip mall with Domino’s, Edward Jones and Nordin Realty) can now be accessed off of Second Street West. Both Ford and the strip mall have their own driveway access.
- Beginning Monday, June 22, businesses that were accessed from the frontage road off of Barzen Avene (Northwest Homes, NAPA) are also accessed off of Second Street West.
- Northern Motors, Northwest Auto body, Fleet Supply and UPS have access from Ruby Avenue onto the frontage road. Access from Barzen Avenue will be interrupted while the contractor is installing utilities and completing the grading for the tie in to the roundabout.
Hwy 1- Construct three roundabouts, frontage road and multi-use trail between Hwy 59 and Kinney Ave
This Week: This projects is in Stage 1 and currently removing the surface from Kinney Avenue to Brooks Avenue.
Next Week: Crews will be placing underground structure and building subgrade.
Traffic Impact: Motorists are currently detoured onto First Street West.

Hwy 1- Replace culvert west of the intersection with Hwy 59
Once this project begins, motorists will detour onto 190th St NE and CR 14

Hwy 1- Resurface between Hwy 219 and Pennington CR 18 east of Thief River Falls
This project is scheduled to begin in August.

Hwy 32- Construct roundabout at the intersection with Pennington CR 8 and CR 16
This Week: Crews continue removal of surface and prepare for installation of curb and gutter.
Next Week: Prepare for installation of curb and gutter.
Traffic impacts: Continued use of bypass lane.

Hwy 32- Replace culvert south of Pennington CR 7
This Week: Crews began installation of the concrete box culvert.
Next Week: Crews will backfill around the culvert and begin the build the road back up to grade.
Traffic Impacts: Detour began on June 15. Motorists will use CR 3, CR 20 and Highway 59. Traffic coming from south headed north, must take detour. From the north, motorists going to the hospital can still get through, using flaggers on site. However they will not be able to travel further south. Residents will have access maintained.

Hwy 32- Resurface between Thief River Falls and St. Hilaire
This week: Crews worked on concrete removal and placement in St. Hilaire as well as patch removals along Highway 32.
Next Week: Crews will begin concrete placement in St. Hilaire as well as pavement placements along Highway 32.
Traffic Impacts: Detour beginning on June 15. Motorists will use CR 3, CR 20 and Highway 59. Traffic coming from south headed north, must take detour. From the north, going to hospital can still get through, using flaggers on site. Only able to get to hospital, not further south. For both the resurface on hwy 32 resurface. Residents will have access maintained.

Hwy 32- Pedestrian improvements in St. Hilaire
This Week: Crews are replacing sidewalks as well as curb and gutter in St. Hillaire.
Next Week: Continued work on sidewalks, curb and gutter.
Traffic Impacts: Motorists can expect lane closures with a flagger.

Pennington CR 8/Mark Blvd- Connect road with the construction of a new bridge over the Red Lake River
This Week: Crews continue working on pouring abutments and construction of the new bridge. There are no traffic impacts.

Pennington CR 8/Mark Blvd- Construct roundabout at Pennington Ave S/Pennington CR 17 near Challenger Elementary
Traffic Impacts: The intersection is currently closed and a detour is in place. Detour onto Greenwood St, Hwy 59 and 140th St NE. (See picture below)

Westside Flood Damage Reduction Project- Construct a diversion channel and drainage infrastructure on the west side of Thief River Falls. Underground storm sewer will be installed along Barzen Ave and Greenwood St, along with a new sanitary sewer.
This Week: Crews are currently removing unsuitable material from the ditch at Barzen Avenue to prep for storm sewer installation. They are also boring the steel casing pipe through Highway 32 at Greenwood Street for the new force main.
Next Week: Storm sewer installation will continue as well as completion of boring through Highway 32.
Traffic Impacts: Motorists can expect lane closures along Greenwood St., Oakland park Rd., and Highway 32. There is a shoulder closure on the north side of Greenwood St. from TH 32 to Oakland Park Rd.
