FMCSA discontinues use of motor carrier and exempt motor carrier PINs, consolidates into single USDOT PIN

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has consolidated all USDOT, Motor Carrier, and Exempt Motor Carrier Personal Identification Numbers (PIN) into one singular USDOT PIN.

This change, which went into effect on Monday, April 27, 2020, impacts all carriers and other FMCSA regulated entities, and eliminates the need for multiple PIN numbers. It also means that motor carrier and exempt motor carrier PINs are no longer valid.

To learn more about this change, visit FMCSA Registration Frequently Asked Questions page or call FMCSA’s customer contact center at 1-800-832-5660 between 8:00 am and 8:00 pm EST.

If you need a USDOT PIN or need to reset it, visit FMCSA’s Request a PIN Number page.
