Metro area weekend traffic impacts map: September 13-15

This map provides an illustrative guide to new and existing traffic impacts set to occur throughout the Twin Cities during the upcoming weekend. You can find additional details about the traffic impacts below, or by visiting: mndot.gov/weekendtrafficimpacts.

There are several options for you to plan ahead and know your route as you travel through the Twin Cities Metro Area.

New this weekend

 These traffic impacts are new as of this weekend.

Hwy 13 in Prior Lake

  • Beginning late Fri, Sept. 13, Hwy 13 reopens in both directions between Hwy 282 and Fairlawn Ave.
  • Hwy 13 is closed in both directions between Co. Rd. 21 and Panama Ave. through October.
    • Detour: Marschall Rd. and Co. Rd. 42

35W@94: Downtown to Crosstown in Minneapolis

  • Beginning 10 p.m. Fri, Sept. 13, NB I-35W is closed between Hwy 62 and I-94 through noon Sat, Sept. 14.
  • Beginning 10 p.m. Fri, Sept. 13, I-35W is closed in both directions between I-94 and Hwy 280 through 5 a.m. Mon, Sept. 16.
  • Beginning 9 a.m. Fri, Sept. 13, the ramp from NB I-35W to 31st St./Lake St. is closed through 5 p.m. the same day.

I-35 North Metro Split from Lino Lakes to Forest Lake

  • Beginning 10 p.m. Fri, Sept. 13, SB I-35E is closed at I-35W through 10 a.m. Sun, Sept. 15.
  • Beginning 10 p.m. Fri, Sept. 13, watch for one 15 minute closure of NB I-35W/I-35E at the I-35W flyover bridge until 12:01 a.m. Sat, Sept. 14.
  • The NB I-35 ramps to/from Hwy 97 are now open.

Hwy 169/41/78 Jackson Township to Louisville Township

  • Beginning late Fri, Sept. 13, Co. Rd. 14 reopens between Hwy 169 and just east of Louisville Rd.
  • Beginning 9 a.m. Fri, Sept. 13, NB Hwy 169 is reduced to a single lane between just south of Co. Rd. 14 and 145th St. through 6 p.m. the same day.

I-494 South St. Paul to Eagan

  • Beginning 7 p.m. Fri, Sept. 13, WB I-494 is reduced to two lanes between Hwy 52 and Hwy 3 through 5 a.m. Mon, Sept. 16.
  • Beginning Mon, Sept. 16, WB I-494 reopens to all lanes between Pilot Knob Rd. and the Minnesota River Bridge.
  • EB I-494 is reduced to two lanes between the Minnesota River Bridge and Pilot Knob Rd. through Mon, Sept. 23.
  • Beginning 7 p.m. Fri, Sept. 13, the WB I-494 ramps to/from Hwy 52 are closed through 5 a.m. Mon, Sept. 16.

These projects have already begun and continue to have traffic impacts.

Hwy 3 in Inver Grove Heights

  • Hwy 3 is closed between Amana Trail and 60th St. through November.

Hwy 12 and County Road 101/Central Avenue in Wayzata

  • The Co. Rd. 101/Central Ave. Bridge over Hwy 12 is closed through fall 2019.
    • Detour: Co. Rd. 6, Vicksburg Ln. N, Gleason Lake Rd., and Wayzata Blvd.
  • The following ramps are closed through Fri, Oct. 25:
    • WB Hwy 12 to SB Co. Rd. 101
    • EB Hwy 12 to SB Co. Rd. 101

35W@94: Downtown to Crosstown in Minneapolis

  • The access to downtown (11th St./Grant St.) from NB I-35W is one northbound lane to allow for ongoing construction in the area. Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes or use transit to travel in/out of downtown. The access out of downtown (from 12th St./4th Ave.) to SB I-35W is closed through fall 2021.
  • NB I-35W is reduced to three lanes between 46th St. and I-94 through fall 2021.
  • SB I-35W is reduced to three lanes between I-94 and 46th St. through fall 2021.
  • The following ramps are closed through fall 2021:
    • EB I-94 to SB I-35W
    • NB I-35W to WB I-94
    • 5th Ave. to NB I-35W
    • 31st St. to SB I-35W
    • SB I-35W to 35th St.
    • 35th St. to NB I-35W
    • 36th St. to SB I-35W
  • There are several other local street closures and trail and sidewalk impacts.

I-35 North Metro Split from Lino Lakes to Forest Lake

  • NB I-35W is reduced to a single lane between one mile south of the I-35W/I-35E split and I-35 through fall 2019.
  • SB I-35W/I-35E is reduced to a single lane between I-35 and one mile south of the I-35W/I-35E split through November.
  • SB I-35 is reduced to two lanes between Hwy 97 and the I-35W/I-35E split through November.
  • Periodic lane closures on I-35 in both directions between Hwy 8 and the I-35W/I-35E split through November.
  • Periodic lane closures on I-35W/I-35E between I-35 and one mile south of the split through November.

I-35W and 5th Street pedestrian bridge in Minneapolis

  • West Side – 9th Ave. between 5th St. SE and 6th St. SE is closed through mid-September.
  • 4th St. ramps to/from I-35W will have periodic closures through mid-September.

I-35W Minnesota River Bridge - Burnsville to Bloomington

  • I-35W will have alternating lane closures in both directions between Cliff Rd. in Burnsville and 106th St. in Bloomington from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. daily through fall 2019.
  • 106th St. in both directions is reduced to a single-lane between Verdi Rd. and Lyndale Ave. S through fall 2019.
  • SB I-35W is reduced to three lanes between 106th St. and Cliff Rd. through summer 2021.

Hwy 36 Stillwater Lift Bridge

  • The Hwy 36 Stillwater Lift Bridge over the St. Croix River is closed to all traffic. It will reopen for pedestrian and bicycle traffic in winter 2019.

Hwy 62 in Eden Prairie

  • EB Hwy 62 is reduced to a single lane between Shady Oak Rd. and Hwy 212 through 6 a.m. Tue, Oct. 22.

Hwy 65 in Columbia Heights

  • Watch for daytime non-peak lane closures on Hwy 65 at 41st Ave. through mid-October.
    • Note: Pedestrian and business access will be maintained at all times.

I-94 Maple Grove to Rogers

  • Watch for lane closures on EB I-94 between Hwy 241 and I-494 through late September.
    • Note: The closures will occur between 6 p.m. and 5 a.m. on weekdays. Saturday closures may last until 10 a.m. There are no lane closures Saturday evenings.
  • Watch for lane closures on WB I-94 between I-494 and Hwy 241 through November.
    • Note: The closures will occur between 7 p.m. and 11 a.m. on weekdays. Saturday closures may last until 11 a.m. There are no lane closures Saturday evenings.

I-94 Oakdale and Woodbury

  • NB I-494 is reduced to two lanes between Valley Creek Rd. and the I-94/I-494/I-694 interchange through late fall 2019.
  • The ramp from 10th St. to NB I-694 is closed through September.

Hwy 169/41/78 Jackson Township to Louisville Township

  • Hwy 169 access at 133rd St. and 145th St. is permanently closed.
  • Co. Rd. 78 in both directions is closed between Hwy 169 and Emery Way through late September.

Hwy 212/County Road 41 in Dahlgren Township

  • Co. Rd. 41 is closed at Hwy 212 through October.
    • Note: There is no access to/from Co. Rd. 41 and Hwy 212.
  • Co. Rd. 36 is closed at EB Hwy 212 through October.
    • Note: There is no access to/from Co. Rd. 36 and EB Hwy 212.
  • Hwy 212 in both directions is reduced to a single lane between Co. Rd. 36 and Co. Rd. 41 through October.

Hwy 212/County Road 44 in Chaska

  • Hwy 212 is reduced to a single lane in both directions between Engler Blvd. and Chaska Blvd. from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily through Tue, Oct. 15.

I-494 in Plymouth

  • The Rockford Rd. bridge is closed through late October. Follow the signed detour.

I-494 South St. Paul to Mendota Heights

  • Concord St. is open to two lanes in each direction between Richmond St. and Villaume Ave., turn lanes remain closed, through fall 2019.
  • The ramp from 7th Ave. to WB I-494 is closed through Mon, Sept. 30.
  • The following ramps are closed through Fri, Sept. 27:
    • EB I-494 to NB I-35E
    • SB I-35E to EB I-494
    • Detour: SB I-35E to Lone Oak Rd. to NB I-35E
