Metro area weekend traffic impacts map: July 19-21

This map provides an illustrative guide to new and existing traffic impacts set to occur throughout the Twin Cities during the upcoming weekend. You can find additional details about the traffic impacts below, or by visiting: mndot.gov/weekendtrafficimpacts.

There are several options for you to plan ahead and know your route as you travel through the Twin Cities Metro Area.

35W@94: Downtown to Crosstown in Minneapolis

  • Beginning 10 p.m. Fri, July 19, SB I-35W is closed between I-94 and Hwy 62 through 5 a.m. Sat, July 20.

Hwy 55 in Minneapolis

  • Beginning 10:30 a.m. Sun, July 21, the following ramps are closed through 5:30 p.m. the same day:
    • Hwy 55 east to Lake St.
    • Hwy 55 west to Lake St.

Hwy 65 Ham Lake and East Bethel

  • 181st Ave. N.E. and the center median at Hwy 65 are now open.

I-94 in St. Paul

  • Beginning 5 p.m. Fri, July 19, Lexington Pkwy. in both directions between Concordia Ave. and St. Anthony Ave. reopens to all lanes.

Hwy 212 in Cologne

  • WB Hwy 212 is closed between Hwy 284 in Cologne and Hwy 5/25 in Norwood Young America until further notice for emergency drainage repairs.

I-494 in Bloomington

  • Beginning 10 p.m. Fri, July 19, the ramp from WB I-494 to Co. Rd. 34/Normandale Blvd. is closed through 5 a.m. Mon, July 22.

These projects have already begun and continue to have traffic impacts.

Hwy 3 in Inver Grove Heights

  • Hwy 3 is closed between Amana Trail and 60th St. through November.

Hwy 10 in Arden Hills

  • EB Hwy 10 is reduced to a single lane between I-35W and Co. Rd. 96 through early August.
  • The ramp from EB Hwy 10 to Co. Rd. 96 is closed through Wed, July 24.
    • Detour: Continue on SB I-35W to Co. Rd. 96
  • The ramp from SB I-35W to EB Hwy 10 is closed through Wed, July 31.
    • EB I-694 detour: Continue on SB I-35W to EB I-694
    • EB Hwy 10 Detour: Exit at Co. Rd. H and use the Co. Rd. 10 ramp to reach EB Hwy 10

Hwy 12 and County Road 101/Central Avenue in Wayzata

  • The Co. Rd. 101/Central Ave. Bridge over Hwy 12 is closed through fall 2019.
    • Detour: Co. Rd. 6, Vicksburg Ln.. N, Gleason Lake Rd., and Wayzata Blvd.
  • The following ramps are closed through Mon, Aug. 12:
    • WB Hwy 12 to NB Co. Rd. 101
    • NB Co. Rd. 101 to EB Hwy 12
  • The following ramps are closed through Fri, Oct. 25:
    • WB Hwy 12 to SB Co. Rd. 101
    • EB Hwy 12 to SB Co. Rd. 101

Hwy 13 in Prior Lake

  • Hwy 13 in both directions is closed between Hwy 282 and Fairlawn Ave. through July.
    • Detour: Marschall Rd. and Co. Rd. 42

35W@94: Downtown to Crosstown in Minneapolis

  • The access to downtown (11th Ave./Grant St.) from NB I-35W is one northbound lane to allow for ongoing construction in the area. Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes or use transit to travel in/out of downtown. The access out of downtown (from 12th St./4th Ave.) to SB I-35W is closed through fall 2021.
  • NB I-35W is reduced to three lanes between 46th St. and I-94 through fall 2021.
  • SB I-35W is reduced to three lanes between I-94 and 46th St. through fall 2021.
  • The following ramps are closed through fall 2021:
    • EB I-94 to SB I-35W
    • NB I-35W to WB I-94
    • 5th Ave. to NB I-35W
    • 31st St. to SB I-35W
    • SB I-35W to 35th St.
    • 35th St. to NB I-35W
    • 36th St. to SB I-35W
  • There are several other local street closures and trail and sidewalk impacts.

I-35 Harris and Rush City

  • I-35 in both directions is reduced to a single lane between just north of the city of Harris and the Chisago/Pine County line through October.

I-35 North Metro Split from Lino Lakes to Forest Lake

  • NB I-35W is reduced to a single lane between one mile south of the I-35W/I-35E split and I-35 through fall 2019.
  • Periodic lane closures on I-35 in both directions between Hwy 8 and the I-35W/I-35E split through summer 2019.
  • Periodic lane closures on I-35W/I-35E between I-35 and one mile south of the split through summer 2019.

I-35W and 5th Street pedestrian bridge in Minneapolis

  • West Side – 9th Ave. between 5th St. SE and 6th St. SE is closed through August.
  • 4th St. ramps to/from I-35W will have periodic closures through August.

I-35W Minnesota River Bridge - Burnsville to Bloomington

  • I-35W will have alternating lane closures in both directions between Cliff Rd. in Burnsville and 106th St. in Bloomington from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. daily through fall 2019.
  • 106th St. in both directions is reduced to a single-lane between Verdi Rd. and Lyndale Ave. S through fall 2019.
  • SB I-35W is reduced to three lanes between 106th St. and Cliff Rd. through summer 2021.

I-35W Roseville to Lino Lakes

  • Rosegate beneath I-35W is closed through November.
  • I-35W in both directions is reduced to three lanes between the northern Hwy 10 interchange and Mounds View Blvd. through November.
  • I-35W in both directions is reduced to two lanes between Co. Rd. C and Mounds View Blvd. (Co. Rd. 10) through November.
  • Watch for periodic lane closures on I-35W in both directions between Hwy 36 in Roseville and Sunset Ave. in Lino Lakes through November. The closures may occur from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • The left turn lane from SB Snelling Ave. (Hwy 51) to Hamline Ave. in Arden Hills is closed through October.
  • The ramp from Co. Rd. C to SB I-35W is closed through November.
  • The ramp from SB I-35W to Co. Rd. I is closed through November.

Hwy 36 Stillwater Lift Bridge

  • The Hwy 36 Stillwater Lift Bridge over the St. Croix River is closed to all traffic. It will reopen for pedestrian and bicycle traffic in late fall 2019.

Hwy 62 and France Avenue Bridge in Edina

  • The ramp from France Ave. to WB Hwy 62 is closed through Fri, Aug. 2.

Hwy 77 in Eagan

  • The ramps from Cliff Rd. to SB Hwy 77 and NB Hwy 77 to Cliff Rd. are closed and detoured through early-August.

I-94 Oakdale and Woodbury

  • WB Tamarack Rd. is reduced to a single lane between Weir Dr. and Bielenberg Dr. through September.
  • EB 10th St. is reduced to a single lane between Hallmark Ave. and Helmo Ave. through September.
  • The following ramps are closed through September:
    • Tamarack Rd. entrance ramp to SB I-494
    • NB I-494 exit ramp to Tamarack Rd.
    • Ramp from 10th St. to NB I-694
      • Please note: These ramps listed above are closed to local traffic to accommodate the I-94/I-494/I-694 interchange detours
  • The following ramps are closed through September:

Hwy 95/Manning Avenue Cottage Grove to Denmark Township

  • Hwy 95 in both directions is closed between 70th St./Co. Rd. 22 and Hwy 61 through late August.
  • Watch for periodic lane closures on Hwy 95 in both directions between 70th St. and just north of 110th St. through September.

I-494 in Plymouth

  • The Rockford Rd. bridge is closed through late October. Follow the signed detour.

I-494 South St. Paul to Mendota Heights

  • The right lane of I-494 is closed at the Hwy 52 interchange from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly through mid-August.
  • WB I-494 is reduced to two lanes between Bailey Rd. and Hwy 61 through late-summer 2019.
  • WB I-494 is reduced to three lanes between Hwy 61 and 7th Ave. through late-summer 2019.
  • EB I-494 is reduced to two lanes between 7th Ave. and Hwy 61 through early August.
  • Concord St. is open to two lanes in each direction between Richmond St. and Villaume Ave., turn lanes remain closed, through summer 2019.
  • The ramps to/from WB I-494 and Concord St. are closed through summer 2019.
  • The following ramps are closed through mid-August:
    • 5th/7th Ave. to EB I-494
    • Concord St. to/from EB I-494
    • Hwy 52 ramps, loops and collector lane to/from WB I-494 are closed from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly
