We are pleased to report that Park Ave. and Portland Ave. will be restriped back to previous conditions with two driving lanes and a wider buffer between the driving and bicycle lanes. We will be restriping the roads beginning the week of June 24. To do the restriping, we will need to restrict parking and there will be some lane closures between 18th and 29th Streets.
I-35W and Lake St. weekend closure June 28-July 1
We’ve hit a major project milestone and are ready to move into the next phase where southbound traffic is shifted to the newly reconstructed lanes of I-35W so crews can reconstruct the southbound lanes. To do this, we need to move the concrete barriers on the highway and need a weekend closure of I-35W. Beginning 10 p.m. Fri, June 28, I-35W will be closed in both directions between I-94 and Hwy 62 until 5 a.m. Mon, July 1. The detour route includes Hwy 62, Hwy 100 and I-394. The ramps to and from I-35W will begin to close 9 p.m. Fri, June 28.
Crews will demolish the I-35W bridge over Lake St. during the weekend. Lake St. will be closed between 1st Ave. S and 3rd Ave. S from 10 p.m. Fri, June 28 through 5 a.m. Mon, July 1. Drivers will be detoured to Nicollet Ave., 31st St., and 3rd Ave. S.

Enjoy a free ice cream treat from La Michoacana Purépecha while staff from MnDOT, City of Minneapolis, Metro Transit, Lake Street Council, and Central Area Neighborhood Development Association answer your questions about the neighborhood, transit, and I-35W construction. Tables will be set up on the sidewalk if weather permits and inside if it does not. Spanish interpreters will be available. This event is free and open to the public.
