High Bridge ribbon cutting celebration

The wait is almost over! Join us Sunday afternoon, Dec. 2, at the south end of the Smith Ave. High Bridge in St. Paul to celebrate its reopening. Festivities will begin at 1 p.m. with a ribbon cutting at the south end of the bridge, followed by a community celebration at nearby Capital View Café.

Who:

MnDOT, city of St. Paul Ward 2, and local community partners

What:

MnDOT and local partners are hosting a celebration to recognize the reopening of the Smith Ave. High Bridge in St. Paul. The event will feature a brief ribbon cutting followed by a short, festive winter walk to a local business to celebrate. All are welcome to attend.

When:

1-4 p.m. Sun, Dec. 2, 2018

Where:  

Ribbon cutting — 1-2 p.m., south end of High Bridge

Winter walk — 2-2:30 p.m., south end of High Bridge to Capital View Café

Community celebration — 2-4 p.m., Capital View Café, 637 South Smith Ave., St. Paul. Doors will open at 2 p.m.

Why:

The Smith Ave. High Bridge is scheduled to reopen by Dec. 2, weather permitting. The bridge has been closed since September 2017 while crews reconstructed the bridge deck, and improved pedestrian and bicycle accommodations on the bridge.

Note: Crews will reopen the bridge prior to Dec. 2 if they are able to finish all necessary work prior to the ribbon cutting event. MnDOT will announce the reopening of the bridge if work is completed prior to the scheduled Dec. 2 reopening date. Stayed tuned for more information with regard to the reopening.
