Metro area weekend traffic impacts map: Aug. 24-26

This weekend is the first of the Minnesota State Fair!

Please make sure to plan ahead and know your route before your travels this weekend, including to the Great Minnesota Get Together!

And don't forget to slow down in work zones.

These traffic impacts are new as of this weekend.

35W@94: Downtown to Crosstown

  • Beginning 12:01 a.m. Sat, Aug. 25, WB I-94 will be closed between I-394 and I-35W until 7 a.m. the same day. Detour: SB I-35W to WB Hwy 62 to NB Hwy 100 to EB I-394.

Hwy 55 in Minneapolis

  • Beginning 9 a.m. Fri, Aug. 24, the right turn lane from Hwy 55 to E Lake St. will be closed until 3 p.m. the same day.

    Hwy 62 in Eden Prairie and Edina

    • The ramp from SB Hwy 169 to WB Hwy 62 is closed through Tue, Aug. 29.

    I-494 in Newport, South St. Paul and Inver Grove Heights

    • Beginning 6 p.m. Fri, Aug. 24, I-494 in both directions will be reduced to a single lane between Blaine Ave. and Hwy 61 through 5 a.m. Sat, Aug. 25.
    • Beginning 6 p.m. Fri, Aug. 24, the ramp from Concord St. to EB I-494 will be closed through 6 p.m. Fri, Sept. 21. Detour: Villaume Ave, Hardman Ave, Richmond St.
    • Beginning 6 p.m. Sun, Aug. 26, WB I-494 will be reduced to two lanes between Hardman Ave. and Blaine Ave. until 6 a.m. Mon, Aug. 27.

    Hwy 8 Forest Lake and Taylors Falls

    • Beginning Mon, Aug. 27, EB Hwy 8 will be reduced to a single lane between I-35 and Goodview Cir. through Fri, Aug. 31.

    35W@94: Downtown to Crosstown

    • Beginning 10 p.m. Mon, Aug. 27, EB I-94 will be closed between I-394 and I-35W until 5 a.m. Tue, Aug. 28. Detour: WB I-394 to SB Hwy 100 to EB Hwy 62 to NB I-35W.

    Hwy 65 in Fridley

    • Beginning Mon, Aug. 27, access from the West Service Drive on Hwy 65 to 63rd Ave. will close through mid-October.

    I-494 in Newport, South St. Paul and Inver Grove Heights

    • Beginning 6 p.m. Mon, Aug. 27, WB I-494 will be reduced to two lanes between Hardman Ave. and Blaine Ave. until 6 a.m. Tue, Aug. 28.

    These projects have already begun and continue to have traffic impacts. No new impacts related to these projects are beginning this weekend.

    Hwy 7 Minnetonka to St. Louis Park

    • Watch for lane closures on Hwy 7 and to accesses to local streets through September.

    Hwy 8 Forest Lake and Taylors Falls

    • Two drainage improvement projects are scheduled on Hwy 8 in Chisago and Washington Counties through December 2018. Expect two closures of Hwy 8 in September, along with lane and ramp closures during project work. Note: Local access to businesses and homes within the project area will be maintained during both project closures

    35W@94: Downtown to Crosstown in Minneapolis

    • The access to downtown (11th St./5th Ave. S/E. Grant St.) from NB I-35W is closed through fall 2018 and the access out of downtown (from 12th St./4th Ave.) to SB I-35W is closed through fall 2021. Routes into and out of downtown.
    • WB I-94 is reduced to two lanes from Chicago Ave. to Nicollet Ave. through fall 2018. SB I-35W is reduced to two lanes from downtown Minneapolis to 43rd St. through fall 2019. NB I-35W is reduced to three lanes from 43rd St. to downtown Minneapolis through fall 2021. View map of all lane closures.
    • The following ramps are closed: EB I-94 to SB I-35W is closed through fall 2021; NB I-35W to WB I-94 is closed through fall 2021; SB I-35W to 35th St. is closed through fall 2020; 4th Ave./16th St. to WB I-94 closed through early October 2018; EB I-94 to SB I-35W is closed through fall 2021.
    • The following bridges are closed: 26th St. bridge over I-35W; 24th St. pedestrian bridge over I-35W until fall 2021; 40th St. bridge over I-35W is closed to pedestrians and bicyclists through fall 2020.
    • There are several other road, lane, ramp and local street closures.

    I-35 North Metro Split from Lino Lakes to Forest Lake

    • SB I-35 is reduced to two lanes separated by a concrete barrier between Hwy 8 and Hwy 97 through fall. 
    • The Forest Lake Rest Area from SB I-35 also is closed during this project work.

    I-35E in Little Canada

    • The ramp from NB I-35E to EB Hwy 36 is closed through late August.

    I-35W Minneapolis to Roseville

    • NB/SB I-35W is reduced by one lane between 4th St. and Co. Rd. C through Fri, Oct. 12, when weekend closures are not occurring.
    • The following ramps to/from NB I-35W will be closed from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Mon. through Fri. through Fri, Oct. 12 (these ramps will not be closed consecutively): 4th St. SE, SE 11th St., Johnson St/New Brighton Blvd/Stinson Blvd., Industrial Blvd.

    I-35W Minnesota River Bridge - Burnsville to Bloomington

    • I-35W will have alternating lane closures in both directions between Cliff Rd. in Burnsville and 106th St. in Bloomington daily. After 10 p.m. each night I-35W may be reduced to a single lane through 5 a.m. the following day. These nightly lane closures will occur through September.

    Hwy 36 Stillwater Lift Bridge

    • The Hwy 36 Stillwater Lift Bridge over the St. Croix River between Stillwater, MN and Houlton, WI is closed to ALL traffic. It will reopen for pedestrian and bicycle traffic in June of 2019.
    • Traffic has been transferred to the new St. Croix Crossing Bridge to the south in Oak Park Heights.

    Hwy 41 Chaska

    • Hwy 41 is closed between Hundertmark Rd. and Pioneer Trl. through early September. Primary Detour: Hwy 212, Powers Blvd., Lyman Blvd.

    Hwy 50 in Farmington

    • Hwy 50 is reduced to a single lane with flaggers in both directions between 4:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. through late August. While crews work, there may be early morning noise throughout the project area.

    Hwy 62 in Eden Prairie and Edina

    • Both directions of Hwy 62 are reduced to a single lane from Shady Oak Rd to I-494 through Tue, Aug. 28. Follow the signed detour.
    • Access to Beach Rd. from WB Hwy 62 is closed through Tue, Aug. 28. Follow the signed detour.
    • Clearwater Dr. is open to right turns in and out through Tue, Aug. 28.

    Hwy 65 Ham Lake to East Bethel

    • The center median of Hwy 65 is closed at 157th Ave. Right turns only allowed from Hwy 65 and 157th Ave. through fall.
    • Work has begun at the intersection of Hwy 65 and 187th Ave. and will continue through fall.

    I-94 East Metro (Woodbury to St. Paul)

    • All major road construction is complete. However, crews are finishing up several minor wrap-up items over the next few weeks. Work is expected to be complete by late August.

    Hwy 95/Manning Ave. Woodbury to Denmark Twp.

    • Hwy 95 is closed in both directions from Bailey Rd. to 70th St. through Fri, Sept. 7. Primary Detour: 70th St, Woodbury Dr. (Co. Rd. 19), Bailey Rd.

    Hwy 149 High Bridge in St. Paul

    • The Hwy 149 High Bridge is closed through December 2018. 
    • Primary Detour: Annapolis St. to Robert St to Kellogg Blvd to West 7th St. to Smith Ave/Hwy 149
    • An Xcel Energy project is underway along Hwy 149/Dodd Rd. Motorists should anticipate the following traffic impacts due to project work: Hwy 149/Dodd Rd. traffic will be shifted and lanes will be narrowed from Hwy 110 to Lake Dr. to replace and relocate gas main through late August. NB Pagel Rd. between Keokuk Ln. and Decorah Ln. also are closed.
    • There are several other road, lane and trail/sidewalk closures.

    Hwy 169 in Belle Plaine, Jordan

    • Hwy 169 is a single lane with head to head traffic traveling on nouthbound lanes from south of Hwy 25 in Belle Plaine to Hwy 19 in Blakely Township through early October. Note: For business access, use Hwy 25
    • Hwy 169 is a single lane with head to head traffic traveling on southbound lanes from just south of Hwy 282 in Jordan to north of Hwy 25 in Belle Plaine through mid-September. Business Detour Map.

    Hwy 169 in Champlin

    • NB Hwy 169 traffic is switched to a single lane on the new NB Elm Creek Bridge and roadway between Hayden Lake Rd. and the Mississippi River through late August.
    • SB Hwy 169 traffic remains a single lane on the southbound side of the highway through late August.
    • Traffic from Dean Rd. to NB Hwy 169 and from NB Hwy 169 to Dean Rd. is detoured on Cartway Rd. and Dayton Rd. through late August.
    • West River Pkwy remains closed until late August.
    • 101st Ave. east of Hwy 169 is closed through early September. 
    • The ramp from WB Hwy 610 to NB Hwy 169 is closed through early September.

    • MnDOT will be updating and replacing overhead signs above specific highways and interstates in five counties through mid-October.
