Crosstown Career Fair July 23
As we move into mid-summer,
we hope you are finding ways to stay cool, especially when traveling through
the project area! There are some short-term local road and trail closures needed
in the next week that will allow us to demolish the southbound lanes of the
highway bridges over Lake St., the Midtown Greenway and 31st St.
Looking ahead,
the 40th St. pedestrian bridge is scheduled to close at the end of the month, as
is the 4th Ave S/16th St. ramp in downtown to westbound I-94.
And mark your
calendars! If you’re interested in potential job opportunities with the project
contractors, join us at a Career Fair on Mon, July 23!
We want to remind you
that Lake St. is going to be closed this weekend between Stevens Ave. and 2nd
Ave. S. starting at 10 p.m. tomorrow (Fri, July 13). We need to close Lake St. so we can
safely demolish the southbound I-35W lanes of the highway bridge above the road.
Construction activities at Lake St. and I-35W will be occurring 24 hours a day. The detour route will be to use Nicollet Ave, 31st St. and 3rd
Ave S.
The road will reopen by 5 a.m. on Mon, July 16. When Lake St. reopens, there will be lane and sidewalk reductions between Stevens Ave. and 2nd Ave. S.
The Midtown Greenway, between Nicollet
Ave. and 5th Ave. S, will close starting at 6 a.m. Tue, July 17. The closure
is needed for demolition of the southbound I-35W lanes of the highway bridge
above the Midtown Greenway.
During the closure, construction
activities at the Midtown Greenway and I-35W will be occurring 24 hours a day.
Residents and businesses in the area should expect some of this work to be
disruptive, including noise and vibrations.
The Midtown Greenway will reopen by 5 a.m. on
Fri, July 20. Bicyclists and pedestrians should follow the posted detours.
A weekend closure of
31st St. between Stevens Ave. and 2nd Ave. S. is scheduled to begin at 10 p.m. on Fri,
July 20. The closure is needed to demolish the
southbound I-35W lanes of the highway bridge above the road. Construction
activities at 31st St. and I-35W will be occurring 24 hours a day. The detour route will be to use Nicollet Ave., Lake
St. and 3rd Ave S.
The road will reopen by 5 a.m. on Mon, July 23. When 31st St reopens,
there will be lane and sidewalk reductions between Stevens Ave. and 2nd Ave. S.
A weekend closure of I-35W is scheduled to
start at 10 p.m. on Fri, July 27. I-35W will be closed between Hwy 280 and
I-94. The closures are needed for two highway projects.
The 35W@94 project will be working between I-94 and Hwy 62 doing utility
crossings and demolishing the 40th St. pedestrian bridge. The I-35W Minneapolis to Roseville project will be resurfacing the road between Hwy 280
and I-94.
The highway will reopen by 5 a.m. on Mon, July 30. The detour route is Hwy 62, Hwy 100 and I-694.
The 40th St. pedestrian bridge is also scheduled to close on Fri, July 27. The 40th St. pedestrian bridge will remain
closed through fall 2020.
We need to keep this bridge closed for
so long for a couple reasons:
- The
bridge is being completely reconstructed and with all the construction
activities taking place on I-35W for the remainder of the project, highway
lanes will be reduced and shifted at various times.
- Construction of the new bridge piers cannot
begin until several stages of temporary traffic lanes on I-35W are completed
below the bridge.
The downtown ramp
from 4th Ave. S/16th St. to westbound I-94 is tentatively scheduled to close in
late-July. Once the ramp closes it will remain closed for approximately two
months. More details about the closure will be included in future updates.
