Just a quick
reminder… if you plan to celebrate the Fourth of July and enjoy fireworks and
other events in Stillwater, we’d like to remind you about parking and where
you can and can’t watch the fireworks display this year.
The public
will be allowed to view the Stillwater fireworks from the new St. Croix River
bridge, however, stopping to let off passengers or parking on the new St. Croix Crossing bridge is prohibited. And more importantly, please view the
fireworks from a safe location, which includes the sidewalk and observation
areas. Stay off the railings or any other places where the public is
not allowed.
Law
enforcement officers from both Minnesota and Wisconsin will be present during
July 4th activities to keep traffic flowing across the new bridge and on
Minnesota Hwy 36 and Wisconsin Hwy 64, as well as ensuring the safety of
viewers on the bridge.
Stillwater Lift Bridge remains closed
And since the Stillwater Lift Bridge is currently being rehabilitated, there is no access to the Lift Bridge from either Wisconsin or Minnesota.
Boat
traffic on the St. Croix River/Lift Bridge Schedule
The Washington
County Sheriff’s Department will patrol the St. Croix River during the
fireworks display. For safety reasons, boats will be prevented from anchoring
in the fireworks fallout zone (where spent fireworks fall) along the
Wisconsin shoreline and 1,100 feet into the river. The main navigation
channel in the river will remain open to boat traffic and the lift bridge
will make regularly scheduled lifts each half hour.
Parking
If you are planning to visit the Stillwater area for Fourth of July festivities and fireworks, parking will be available in both Minnesota and Wisconsin.
Please note: There will be no facilities (restroom, water, et.) available in Wisconsin, so plan accordingly. There also is no access to the St. Croix River from Wisconsin since the old Wisconsin Hwy 64 and old Co. Rd. E are both closed to the public.
No stopping or parking on the St. Croix
Crossing bridge
Stopping to let off passengers or
parking on the new St. Croix Crossing bridge is prohibited. Law enforcement
officers from both Minnesota and Wisconsin will be present during July 4
activities to keep traffic flowing across the new bridge and on Minnesota Hwy
36 and Wisconsin Hwy 64.
Maps for parking and Loop Trail access in both Minnesota and
Wisconsin can be found on the WisDOT project page.
Hwy 95 open
Hwy 95 between
Hwy 36 and Nelson St. south of downtown Stillwater reopened to traffic on
Fri, June 29. The road had been closed and detoured since early June for
installation of new drainage structures beneath the highway near the Oasis
Café to improve storm water runoff.
And please
remember, stay out of any construction zones in either state.
Construction of the loop trail system in both Minnesota and Wisconsin
continues through this fall. The public is prohibited from entering these
construction areas as there are a large
number of construction vehicles, uneven terrain, excavation and other unsafe
conditions that pose a risk to anyone who does not belong in the work area.
In
addition, those who are not working in the project area could be cited for
trespassing. Your cooperation is appreciated to keep everyone safe during
construction in both states.
We hope you all have a fun and safe holiday!
The
work on Hwy 95 will consist of constructing the Upper Loop Trail portion
in Minnesota.
Construction will include adding new drainage structures beneath Hwy 95 near
the Oasis Café and completing landscaping stemming
from the St. Croix Crossing project.
