Good news! Highway 42 near
Kellogg reopened today, Oct. 24 as crews finished striping on the new bridge.
MnDOT lifted the detour late Tuesday morning for traffic. Some work remains at the site. Construction workers will be applying a surface finish on the bridge. The work will be completed with flaggers to ensure that traffic remains open on the route.
The Highway 42 bridge over Gorman Creek was replaced this summer. Motorists
were detoured beginning in July for the removal of the old bridge.
Overall, the
construction work included grading, paving, bridge replacement
and guardrail installation. Additionally a concrete weir under the bridge
was replaced with a series of rock weirs. A weir is structure across a river
that is used to change the flow from upstream to downstream. It can help with
fish migration, navigation or flooding.
Minnowa Construction of Harmony, Minn.,
was the prime contractor on the $923,905 project.
