We want to update our note from this morning about the heads up beginning Friday night for
potential weekend traffic delays on Hwy 52 at Zumbrota.
Key update: Hwy 58 traffic across the new
bridge will be closed from 10 p.m., Friday and reopened at 8 a.m., Saturday,
Oct. 14.
Motorists on Highway 52 at Zumbrota
are expected to experience traffic slow downs beginning in the evening, Friday,
Oct. 13 through early Monday morning, Oct. 16 as crews demolish the old Highway
58 bridge over Hwy 52.
Crews will be taking the old bridge
down and dropping portions into sand on Hwy 52. They are expected to remove the
bridge by 5 a.m., Oct. 16 and reopen Hwy 52 to traffic. If work is completed
earlier, the highway will open sooner.
During the demolition, traffic on
Hwy 52 will be routed up and down the interchange ramps and through the
roundabouts at each side of the new bridge. Traffic is expected to slow through
this point and could back up during busy travel times during the weekend.
Motorists should plan for additional travel time or take an alternate route to
avoid this section.
The work is part of the replacement
of the Hwy 58 bridge over Hwy 52. The project will also improve connections for
pedestrians and bicyclists across the bridge, traffic flow off of Hwy 52 and
the length of the uphill acceleration lane onto southbound Highway 52.
Completion of the project is scheduled for this fall.
Once the demolition is completed,
crews will move on to finish repaving Hwy 52 this month.
Hoffman Construction Company of
Black River Falls, Wis., is the prime contractor for the $5.6 million project.
Thanks for your patience as we get
close to completion of this project.
