A full closure of
I-35W will happen this weekend.
Beginning 10 p.m.
Fri, Sept. 29, both directions of I-35W between Hwy 62 and I-94 will close as crews prepare the Franklin Ave.
bridge for demolition. The ramps to/from I-35W will begin to close
approximately one hour prior to the highway closure. Motorists will be detoured
to I-394,
Hwy 100 and Hwy 62. I-35W will reopen by 5 a.m. Mon, Oct. 2.
In addition to this
weekend closure, another full-closure of I-35W is anticipated for the following
weekend: 10 p.m. Fri, Oct 6 to 5 a.m. Mon, Oct 10 to complete the Franklin Ave.
bridge demolition. The highway closure and detour will be the same as this
upcoming weekend’s closure.
Note: In
order to get all the necessary work done crews will be working 24 hours a day
during the weekend closures. Residents in this area should expect construction
noise, lights and vibration during the night.
Bridge Closure
The Portland Ave.
bridge over I-94/I-35W will close for pier work beginning 5 a.m. Sat, Sept 30.
The closure will be in place for two months; however, pedestrians and
bicyclists will still be able to use the bridge as well as ambulances. Motorists
will be detoured
to 15th St, Chicago Ave. and Franklin Ave.
Ramp closure
detour
The 31st S. ramp to
southbound I-35W has been closed since Sept. 14 while crews work on the
underground utilities in this area. However, beginning Wed, Sept. 27, the new posted
detour will be Nicollet Ave. to 36th St. The detour will remain in
place until the ramp reopens, which is anticipated in early October.
Lane closures
Beginning today
(9/25), Xcel Energy will be doing some utility work on I-35W around 40th St.
This is going to require ongoing periodic lane closures in both the northbound
and southbound lanes and the right lane of northbound I-35W will close for
approximately one week.
Ramp closure
The southbound
I-35W ramp to 35th St. closed today (9/25) while CenturyLink relocates their
utility line for the project. The detour is 46th
St. to Nicollet Ave. This ramp
is expected to reopen at the beginning of October.
Closure durations and time
frames are all approximate and weather dependent.
The 35W@94: Downtown to Crosstown project is an ongoing
reconstruction project of I-35W between 42nd Street and downtown Minneapolis.
The project will improve accessibility, safety and mobility in the project
area, including better access to the Lake Street business district and transit
service on I-35W and Lake Street. Work is anticipated to be completed in fall
2021.
