Motorists on Highway 42 near
Kellogg will encounter a detour beginning July 10 for the replacement of bridge near the intersection of
Highway 61 and Highway 42, according to the Minnesota Department of
Transportation.
The
Highway 42 bridge over Gorman Creek will be replaced from July to
October. The removal of the bridge requires the detouring of traffic
during construction.
Local businesses along
Highway 42, such as SVJ Creative Designs and Cowpokes Western Shop are open and
accessible by following the direction signs along the detour route. A
detour connecting Highway 61 to Highway 42 by using Wabasha County Road 14 will
be in place during construction.
Overall, the construction
work includes grading, paving, bridge replacement and guardrail installation.
Additionally the concrete weir under the bridge will be replaced with a series
of rock weirs. A weir is structure across a river that is used to change the
flow from upstream to downstream. It can help with fish migration, navigation
or flooding.
Motorists interested in a map
of the detour or to sign up for email updates on the project may go to the
