On Monday, May 15, MnDOT Office of Civil Rights celebrated
the grand opening of our new Disadvantaged
Business Enterprise Small Business Resource Center. The event
featured presentations from general contractors, MnDOT, and consultants who
provide business and technical assistance to DBEs. There were more than
65 representatives from small businesses who attended to learn about the Resource Center services. In case you missed it, small business owners were encouraged to sign
up for one-on-one sessions (PDF) to prepare a marketing pitch for upcoming networking
events. The Resource Center will also be hosting “Quick Biz
Lunch & Learn workshops” beginning in June.
Veterans encouraged to start and build their businesses
On Saturday, May 20, veterans and their spouses were invited
to the Minneapolis VA Medical Center to learn about starting and building a
business. MnDOT Office of Civil Rights Business Development Advisor,
George Costilla participated on a panel with other agencies to discuss MnDOT
contract opportunities for certified veteran-owned
small businesses. The MnDOT Office of Civil Rights also hosted an
informational booth and provided materials for certification and training
opportunities.
I-35W/Lake Street DBE networking event
On May 22, MnDOT Office of Civil Rights hosted an I-35W/Lake Street networking event. More than 50 small businesses attended to learn about the $265 million upcoming Minneapolis project. There were also 12 prime contractors available to discuss the project and answer estimating and other questions from potential DBEs.
