On
March 27, 2017, MnDOT Office of Civil Rights hosted a networking event for the
upcoming $265 million dollar I-35W/Lake Street project at the Colin Powell
Center in Minneapolis. More than 90
small businesses and 11 general contractors attended to learn and connect with
colleagues in the construction industry. The event provided an opportunity for small businesses to promote their
services with metro area prime contractors who are interested in bidding on
this and other projects.
Attendees learned about:
- Project size and work areas from MnDOT and Metro
Transit Engineers
- MnDOT Equal Employment Opportunity program and
workforce goals

MnDOT On-the-Job Training program and project requirements
- Disadvantaged
Business Enterprise opportunities and requirements
- MnDOT business development assistance for small
businesses including:
-Mentor/Protégé opportunities -Business skills courses -One-on-one seminars and targeted training -Technical assistance with technology
requirements
This event was the first of two small business networking events being hosted by MnDOT Office of Civil Rights this spring. MnDOT Office of Civil Rights will also be hosting events for people interested in working on the I-35W/Lake Street and other MnDOT projects later this fall.
