BOW Fall Workshop

October 2-4, 2026, Eagle Bluff Environmental Learning Center, Lanesboro, MN. Register here!

Save the date for our Fall BOW Workshop. Class offerings include some of the favorites such as fly fishing, rifle and shotgun range and canoeing. Classes for fall include deer processing series, geology of sinkholes and fossils, animal tracking, orienteering, bird watching, fall colors, trailering and backing. Workshops are a great way for women to learn new skills and meet new people who are also interested in the outdoors.   Scholarships are available, contact Linda.Radimecky@state.mn.us

Beyond BOW classes are for women who want to learn a specific skill in a small class setting or who already have the skill fundamentals and now want to practice the skill during a weekend trip or hunt.

Firearm Hunts

Grouse Hunt - Full

October 23-25, 2026.  To celebrate the 75th anniversary of Wildlife Management Areas, we are hosting a Grouse Hunt at Norris Camp, located in the Red Lake WMA. The housing is rustic but historic, offering a unique experience.  Mentors will lead small groups of women out on the many trails in the WMA. Participants must have their Firearm Safety certificate and attend the mandatory shooting session October 11, 2026.  To register, please contact Linda.Radimecky@state.mn.us

Deer Hunt - Full

December 4-6, 2026, Osprey Wilds ELC, fee $150. Fee includes two-day women’s mentored hunt, firearms and ammunition, platform stands, lodging and meals. To register for the hunt or request more information, email linda.radimecky@state.mn.us. Space is limited.

This is a great opportunity for women to learn how to deer hunt with a firearm. Prior to the hunt we will host a class to learn deer hunting basics, regulations, safety and to practice range shooting. This class will likely be scheduled for November 15. Women will need to be firearm safety certified (FAS) and purchase a hunting license to participate in this hunt. You can take FAS on-line  any time prior to the December hunt.
 




Pheasant Hunt

Saturday, September 12, 2026, 1pm at Wings North in Pine City, MN

Join us for an afternoon of pheasant hunting! No experience required, new pheasant hunters welcome🙌.

$175/person includes the hunt, guide/dog, and dinner after the hunt. Guns/ammo are your responsibility; non-toxic shot only (NO lead)

$50 non-refundable deposit ($125 due no later than Tuesday, Sept 8th) required to hold your spot.

Payment must be made to me in full 48 hours prior to event start time.

We can clean our birds together!

Join us for the Minnesota Wildlife Federation's Women in Conservation Leadership 2026 Pheasant Hunt Experience!

Program Description:

The MWF Women in Conservation Leadership (WiCL) program provides a welcoming space for women looking to experience outdoor recreation activities in a supportive mentor-led environment while learning about opportunities to become active in the conservation and management of Minnesota's natural resources. This fall we are offering a Women's Pheasant hunt program! Over the course of two in person events participants will be provided with an overview of firearm safety and an opportunity to shoot on a shotgun range followed by an in person overnight pheasant hunt weekend on lands near Gibbon MN. 

When:

Friday Sept 18- 3:00pm until dark-Shooting range and program introduction- Metro Gun Club Blaine MN (final time TBD)

Saturday Oct 10- Sunday Oct 11-Pheasant Hunt weekend- Gibbon MN

Who can apply: This program is open to women in Minnesota (18+) who have an interest in experiencing hunting and shooting sport activities. No experience is necessary and some experience is welcomed if you are in need of further support to feel confident afield. 

Cost:

Lodging and meals will be covered for program participants during program activities. Firearms for program use, ammunition, and basic blaze orange safety gear is also provided. Attendees are responsible for all necessary licenses, safety certifications and transportation to events.

Scholarships for these costs are available as needed. Please contact program staff for more information.

Three Rivers Park District

Tuesdays, September 8-November 17 – 6-7:30pm – Trails Club for Women – Various locations throughout Three Rivers Park District

Stay active and explore the Park District with an Outdoor Recreation School instructor and others who enjoy hiking. We’ll check out a different trail each week, learn a little about navigating trails, Leave No Trace hiking and get to know each other while we hike. Expect variable trail conditions. Locations subject to change; an updated schedule will be provided for registered participants. $95/person. Registration required.

Women's Off-Grid Lifestyle Immersion Experiences, multiple dates: August 10-13, September 21-24, or October 12-15, fee $398 which includes three nights lodging. For more information and how to register visit https://www.points-unknown.com/women/.

Bring your friends and/or come and meet new friends. You will be immersed in our off-grid wilderness lifestyle with sled dogs. Lodging is provided in our guest suite and tiny cabins. Each month and season brings a different experience. Depending on season, experiences may include sled dogs care, beeswax candle tour, plant medicine identification and use, hiking to some of the most beautiful places in the world, and dark sky sanctuary gazing just out the back door. Additional options my include mindful paddling into the BWCA and Fall Sled Dog training on wheels.

These webinars are part of the Minnesota Outdoor Skills and Stewardship Series that aims to give participants quick, relevant information on upcoming seasons and events, and skills to help enjoy the outdoors.

  • Sept. 9 – Part 1 of our WMA series, on wetlands: Nicole Hansel-Welch, DNR shallow lakes program supervisor, andJosh Kavanagh, DNR wetland program supervisor, will be providing an overview of what the Minnesota DNR is doing to enhance habitat on shallow lakes in Minnesota and providing an overview of the wetland management program and the work being done on new and existing WMAs to restore and enhance wetlands.
  • Sept. 23 – Minnesota deer updates: Paul Burr, Minnesota DNR deer coordinator, will join us to discuss the changes for the upcoming 2026 deer hunting season. We’ll cover updates to the state’s chronic wasting disease surveillance and management efforts, explain the regulation changes for the season, and provide a brief outlook for the 2026 deer hunt.
  • Oct. 7 – Part 2 of our WMA series, on prairies: Greg Hoch, prairie habitat supervisor, is joining us to talk about why WMAs across western and southern Minnesota are so important to the state’s historic prairie habitat range and how the DNR’s work keeps these lands diverse and productive.
  • Oct. 21 ­– Proposed changes could be coming to duck season: Nate Huck, DNR migratory gamebird consultant, is joining us to talk about the proposed three-duck bag limit and how it might make it easier for new waterfowl hunters to participate in duck hunting.
  • Nov. 4 ­– Part 3 of our WMA series, on forests: On this webinar we are going to talk with Heather Baird, forest fisheries landscape coordinator, Ted Dick, forest habitat supervisor, and Mike North, forest wildlife coordinator. We will discuss forest management on WMAs and aquatic management areas and how they differ from forest management on other DNR management units. We’ll cover the goals of DNR wildlife work, which blends both biology and state statute, and the goals of the AMA program. We also touch on the different vegetative cover types and native plant communities, their use by wildlife and how we modify standard forestry practices to accommodate wildlife needs.
  • Nov. 18 ­– Part 4 of our WMA series, on our roving habitat crews: Louise Spiczka, Minnesota DNR southwest habitat enhancement crew supervisor, and Matt Tomoson, Minnesota DNR west central habitat enhancement crew supervisor, are joining us to discuss the Minnesota DNR’s Outdoor Heritage Funded roving habitat enhancement crew program and the important habitat enhancement and restoration work these crews are doing across the state. They will share highlights of some of the crew’s most interesting and impactful projects they have completed in various habitat types around Minnesota.

 

 

 


Becoming an Outdoors Woman Program (BOW)

The BOW program provides hunting, fishing, and non-consumptive outdoor skills classes to women in a safe and supportive environment. BOW works cooperatively with DNR staff, volunteers, and outside agencies to provide opportunities for women to learn skills. BOW is guided by a volunteer steering committee.
