Lower Shore: Duluth to Two Harbors
Surface water temps were in the highs 50’s near Duluth and up to 45 °F as far north as Two Harbors. Near Duluth, the stickbait bite slowed down and anglers found more success presenting spoons and flasher fly rigs 30-45 feet down. A few anglers reported doing fairly well jigging near Two Harbors, but the fishing was better closer to Duluth. Although the number of Salmon reported was not high this week, some really nice sized King and Cohos were caught. The Walleye bite in the St. Louis River Estuary cooled off, but there were still reports of some decent catches trolling stickbaits in shallow and jigging the deeper water.
Upper Shore: Twin Points to Hovland
Surface water temps were 39-42 °F along the Upper Shore this week and poor weather conditions resulted in very low angling pressure. Near Grand Marais anglers reported fair fishing for Lake Trout that were 1-6 pounds. Silver Bay anglers reported that the fishing was spotty and varied day to day with a few folks catching some nice Lakers. Anglers found success with bright colored spoons, plugs, and flasher fly combos, in deep water, close to bottom structure. No Salmon or Steelhead were reported this week. Heavy rains flooded the streams and rivers causing huge plumes of turbid water in the lake which will likely make for difficult fishing in days ahead, even in deep water areas.
