DNR Receives Revised Tamarack Mining Project Proposal
About this Update
The purpose of this update is to notify you that the DNR has received a revised project proposal for the Tamarack Mining Project (Project) from Talon Nickel (USA) LLC (Proposer).
State EIS Process Status
Preparation of an environmental impact statement (EIS) for any complex project is a multi-year process. The DNR is currently in the early steps of the scoping phase of the EIS process for the proposed Project. The scoping process helps the DNR ensure the future EIS assesses the proposed Project’s potentially significant environmental impacts, and helps define project alternatives, potential mitigations, timelines, and additional data needs.
The scoping process is iterative.
- June 21, 2023: The Proposer submitted its initial Project proposal to the DNR
- September 18, 2023: The first round of DNR comments were sent to the Proposer
- October 11, 2023: The Proposer submitted its second Project proposal to DNR
- February 5, 2024: The second round of DNR comments were sent to the Proposer
- December 12, 2024: The Proposer submitted it's third Project proposal to DNR. The DNR is currently in the process of reviewing this information.
As is typical for a project of this complexity, many comments are sent to the Proposer. The DNR anticipates multiple rounds of review and comment followed by revisions from the Proposer.
