MFRC Seeks Forest Program Administrator and Communications Specialist

The Minnesota Forest Resources Council (MFRC) is hiring a Forest Program Administrator and Communications Specialist to coordinate administration of its sustainable forest resource programs and activities, and to lead its communications efforts.  As part of a small team, this position works closely with the Executive Director and governor appointed stakeholders to achieve a sustainable forest management vision that balances ecological, economic, and social values of Minnesota’s forests in the era of climate change.  The position is located on the St. Paul campus of the University of Minnesota and closes 10/04/23.

2023 Midwest Climate Resilience Conference, Oct. 25–27, Duluth, MN

Forest Service FY24 Grant Opportunities

The U.S. Forest Service has announced grant opportunities for several forest related programs.  These include:  * $150 million from the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) available to support participation of underserved and small acreage forest landowners in emerging markets for climate mitigation and forest resilience. This application package has been published on Grants.gov (Opportunity #USDA-FS-2023-IRA-FLS-01).  Landscape Scale Restoration (LSR) Grant Program, a competitive grant program to encourage collaborative, science-based restoration of priority forest landscapes, leverage public and private resources, and support priorities identified in State Forest Action Plans. Minnesota Forest Resource Management Plans Available for Comment

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has released Section Forest Resource Management Plans for five of the ecological regions within the state.  The plans are part of the DNR’s Forest Resource Management Plan System, which also includes the DNR’s 10-year stand exam list. They guide DNR managers on what to consider when making management decisions for forest stands within each ecological section. The draft plans are available for comment through Oct. 23, 2023.  Click here for more information.
