Lower Shore: Duluth to Two Harbors
The surface bite was still in the Duluth and Superior area, and anglers did well in the top 30 feet of the water for Lake Trout, Chinook, and Coho Salmon using orange, pink, and green spoons or stickbaits. Fish sizes were similar to last week, with some Lake Trout over 30” and Chinooks up to 22” being caught. Surface temps rose to the mid-50s near Duluth some days, with bug slicks being very productive areas to fish. Further north, McQuade to Two Harbors, surface temps remained at or below 40 °F. Lake Trout were holding near structure in 110-180 feet of water. However, fishing was slow north of McQuade, with jigging and trolling catching only a few fish. St. Louis Estuary anglers found a few Walleye, but primarily fish less than 16” in the harbor.
Upper Shore: Twin Points to Hovland
Anglers from all Upper Shore stations reported steady fishing for Lake Trout in the 18-22” range over the last week, fishing mainly in 120-200 feet of water near bottom structure or on steady flats in that depth range. Spoons run on downriggers have been productive and some anglers also reported fair success vertical jigging in deep water. Surface water temps were in the 35-37 °F range over the week with some reports of slightly warmer water. Anglers have not yet reported catching salmon and angling pressure has been pretty light from all Upper Shore stations. River temps have warmed substantially and the Steelhead run is over.
