Good afternoon,
The House and Senate are both moving quickly with hearings on top priority bills and hearing presentations from state agencies and non-partisan committee staff. Expect the number of introduced bills to pick up in the coming weeks. This week the House and Senate posted the committee deadlines for this year's session:

March 10th: Committees must act favorably on bills in the house of origin.
-
March 24th: Committees must act favorably on bills, or companions of bills, that met the first deadline in the other body.
-
April 4th: Committees must act favorably on major appropriation and finance bills.
-
April 4th - April 10th: Easter/Passover break
-
May 22nd: Legislature must complete its work

Don't forget, it’s Take a Kid Ice Fishing Weekend this Saturday, Jan. 14, through Monday, Jan. 16! During the three-day weekend, any Minnesota resident can go ice fishing for free if fishing with a child 15 years old or younger. Minnesotans 15 years old or younger don’t need fishing licenses any time of the year.
If you’re new to ice fishing and want to give it a try, we have helpful information on our website to get you started. Check the DNR’s learn to ice fish page for more information about ice fishing, including a recorded webinar with tips and techniques anglers can use to have fun catching sunfish, crappie and perch.
Ice conditions vary and there is no such thing as 100% safe ice. Always check local ice conditions before heading out to a lake or river. Visit the DNR ice safety page for ice safety guidelines.
Thank you for subscribing to the DNR Legislative Update Email List. We look forward to sharing more updates with you during this year's legislative session. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Jason Garms
