Women's Archery Deer Hunt Series

September 6 - 25. Register by emailing Linda.Bylander@state.mn.us.

Register today for our archery deer hunt series. This four part series is designed for women who have target shooting experience and want to learn how to hunt deer. The series begins with a deer hunting clinic followed by two practice archery range shoots and ends with a mentored hunt.

This program is a great way to learn how to hunt deer while being mentored by an experienced archery hunter. Space is limited so register today! For details see the class dates and descriptions listed below.


BOW Archery Deer Hunt Series Sessions and Descriptions

Women planning to attend the hunt are encouraged to attend all three sessions. Women not attending the hunt can register for independent classes. Email Linda.Bylander@state.mn.us for registration details.

SESSION 1 & 2: Archery Deer Clinic & Range Shoot

September 6, 6:30 - 8:30 p.m., fee $20, A-1 Archery, Hudson, WI. Mike Foster and Dana Keller will teach a deer clinic covering regulations, licenses, where to hunt, deer sign, broadheads, ground blinds, tree stands and how to hunt safely by using a five-point harness. Class includes target shooting to assess if your bow's draw weight is set properly. Bring your own hunting bow. If you do not have your own equipment, Dana and Mike can recommend equipment to purchase. You will need your own equipment for the hunt. Equipment can be purchased at A-1.

SESSION 3: Outdoor Archery Shoot

September 10, 10 a.m. - Noon, free, Chilakoot Bowhunters, Stillwater, MN. Join Don Buckentin and members of the Club at an outdoor shoot that focuses on shooting at paper animal targets set in the woods. Learn where and when to shoot and how to gauge shooting distances. Bring your own bow and arrows to this event. This is a great way to practice shooting for the upcoming hunt.

SESSION 4: Mentored Archery Deer Hunt

September 23 - 25, fee $180, UM Cedar Creek East Bethel, MN. Spend the weekend archery deer hunting with a mentor. Two nights lodging and individual mentors are included. Bring your own tree stand and harness or hunt from the mentor’s ground blind. Space is limited.

Learn to Pheasant Hunt Workshop

August 26 - 28, fee $250, limit 12, Minnesota Horse and Hunt Club, Prior Lake. For more information email SandyBOW@gmail.com

Join the Bird Bustin' Babes, passionate outdoor mentors, as they share their skills and knowledge during a hands- on action-packed weekend that is all about learning  shooting skills and pheasant hunting. This weekend class includes shotgun basics, sporting clays, hunting basics, and gun cleaning. A game farm hunt will be held at a later date. Lodging, food, and instruction are included.

Women’s Mindful Paddle and BWCA Camp Out for Beginners

September 14 - 19, Fee $1,550, Minimum 4, Register by emailing linda@point-unknown.com. Visit www.points-unknow.com for more information.

The adventure’s home base is at the Points Unknown homestead in the remote north woods of Minnesota’s Arrowhead Region. It is led by BOW dog sledding instructor, Linda Newman and Windcradle’s Mary Ellen Ashcroft, Author, former English Professor, current creative writing instructor for the Grand Marais Art Colony and 25+ year canoe guide. We will stay the first night in the Points Unknown Guest Suite.  We then head up the Arrowhead Trail to the least utilized entry point into the BWCAW for four days of paddling and three nights of camping out. We will spend our final night in the Points Unknown Guest Suite.

These webinars are part of the Minnesota Outdoor Skills and Stewardship Series that aims to give participants quick, relevant information on upcoming seasons and events, and skills to help enjoy the outdoors.

Becoming an Outdoors Woman Program (BOW)

The BOW program provides hunting, fishing, and non-consumptive outdoor skills classes to women in a safe and supportive environment. BOW works cooperatively with DNR staff, volunteers and outside agencies to provide opportunities for women to learn skills. BOW is guided by a volunteer steering committee.
