Good afternoon,

 

Minnesota’s 2022 Legislative Session is in it's second week and we would like to share a few DNR highlights, and what will be happening next week.

 

This Week's Hearings

Monday, February 7, 2022: Senate Environment and Natural Resources Policy and Legacy Finance Committee

DNR Commissioner, Sarah Strommen and Assistant Commissioner, Bob Meier provided and overview of the DNR and the agency's mission, as well as a few of the opportunities for this year. Each of the seven DNR Division Directors also presented examples of the unique work that happens within their divisions.

 

Monday, February 7, 2022 and continued Wednesday, February 9, 2002: Senate Agriculture and Rural Development Finance and Policy Committee

Capt. Robert Gorecki, DNR Regional Enforcement Manager, and Dr. Michelle Carstensen, DNR Wildlife Health Program Supervisor, gave an update on the DNR and the Board of Animal Health White-tail Deer Co-Authority. The committee was presented with the recommendations found in the Concurrent Authority Regulating Farmed White-tailed Deer report. The Board of Animal Health also provided a presentation and testimony on the Concurrent Authority Regulating Farmed White-tailed Deer report.

 

Tuesday, February 8, 2022: Senate Environment and Natural Resources Finance Committee

DNR Commissioner, Sarah Strommen provided an overview of DNR's supplemental budget, including drought relief and climate adaption and mitigation.

Dr. Kelly Straka, DNR Wildlife Section Manager, presented the committee with an update on Chronic Wasting Disease and the agency's recent efforts.

 

Tuesday, February 8, 2022: House Environment and Natural Resources Finance and Policy

Laura Preus, DNR Parks and Trails Section Manager, provided the committee with a presentation on the status and recommendations of the Minnesota Outdoor Recreation Task Force.

Monday, February 14, 2022, 1:00 PM: House Agriculture Finance and Policy Committee

  • Concurrent Authority Report Farmed White-tailed Deer
  • HF2814 (Ecklund) Farmed Cervidae owner requirements modified, chronic wasting disease live-animal testing required, and money appropriated.

 

Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at 8:30 AM: House Judiciary Finance and Civil Law

  • HF2819 (Hansen) Snowmobile and off-highway vehicle provision violation civil penalties increased.

 

Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at 10:30 AM: House Climate and Energy Finance and Policy Committee

  • Informational Hearing on HF1853 (Bierman) EV charging in MN State Parks

 

Tuesday, February 15, 2022, 1:00 PM: House Environment and Natural Resources Finance and Policy

  • HF3004 (Acomb) Groundwater storage and recovery funding provided, and money appropriated.
  • HF2813 (Ecklund) Rat Root River; walleye stocking funding provided, and money appropriated.

 

Tuesday, February 15th, 2022 3:00 PM: Senate Mining and Forestry Policy Committee

  • Overview of the mining permitting process

  • Updated on the status of mining projects and related lawsuits
