Archery Hunting Webinar 

February 23, 2022, noon to 1 p.m., free, register for this webinar at Outdoor Skills and Stewardship Series

Our new archery hunting series begins this month with a free webinar presented by BOW volunteer Desiree Holmberg. Desiree will cover the basics of archery hunting and how to select a hunting compound bow and accessories. 

This webinar is the first session in the 2022 archery turkey hunting series. This series is ideal for women ready to transition from target archery to hunting archery. The BOW program is coordinating with skilled volunteers, conservation organizations and archery shops to offer this series. No equipment is necessary to begin. See the section below for more details on the turkey hunting archery series.

Turkey Hunting Archery Series

Women who want to improve their archery target shooting and then build on that experience by learning how to hunt wild turkeys are encouraged to enroll in the archery series that begins this month. You can register for one or all of the sessions. For more details email linda.bylander@state.mn.us.

Session 1: Archery hunting basics webinar, February 23, noon to 1 p.m. This free webinar is open to the public. Registration for session 1 is now open at Outdoor Skills and Stewardship Series. Join BOW volunteer Desiree Holmberg to learn about archery equipment and hunting basics.

Session 2: Women’s archery shop basics and target practice, Archery Country, Rogers, MN, March 12, noon to 1 p.m., fee $15. This women only session introduces women to the services provided at archery shops and then concludes with practice shooting at the indoor range.

Session 3: Women’s archery practice, A-1 Archery, Hudson, WI, March 29, 6 - 7 p.m., fee $20. This women only program will focus on archery target shooting.

Session 4: Turkey hunting clinic, A-1 Archery, Hudson, WI, March 29, 7 - 8 p.m., free. This in-person clinic is open to the public and will focus on the basics of archery turkey hunting. The DNR website also has a pre-recorded videos on how to hunt turkeys.

Session 5: Women’s hunting Q&A session, Zoom, April 5, 7- 8 p.m., free. This session for women will focus on hunting clothing and your hunting questions.

Session 6: 3-D Archery shoot, April 23, Chilakoot Bowhunters Club, Stillwater, MN, time TBD, fee $20. This 3-D shoot is open to the public. Women will be grouped together to practice shooting outdoors at 3-D targets to learn when and where to shoot and to gauge shooting distance.

Session 7: Women’s mentored archery turkey hunt, May 6 - 8, East Bethel, MN, fee TBD. Women will hunt two days with a mentor.  Session dependent on health guidelines. 


Women Workshops 

Cross-Country Skiing, Tuesday, February 15, 1 - 3 p.m., Fee $16, Rice Creek Chain of Lakes Park Reserve, MN, Register by February 8 at Online Services (activecommunities.com). Class code is 5363.

This class, provided by the Spring Lake Parks & Recreation Department, is geared for women 18 and older. This women only workshop is a great way to learn cross-country skiing while meeting other women who love the outdoors. Pre-registration is required. Equipment is included in the program fee.

Full Moon Snowshoe, Wednesday, February 16, 6:30 - 8:30 p.m., Fee $8, Rice Creek Chain of Lakes Park Reserve, MN, Register by February 9 at Online Services (activecommunities.com). Class code is 5364.

This class, provided by the Spring Lake Parks & Recreation Department, is geared for women 18 and older. This women-only workshop is a great way to learn snowshoeing while meeting other women who love the outdoors. Pre-registration is required. Equipment is included in the program fee.

Dog Mushing! Women’s Winter Adventure, February 3 – 6 or Feb. 24 – 27, 2022, Fee $1,295, Grand Marais/Hovland, MN, limit 4, Register at www.points-unknown.com/women/.

This class is taught by Linda Newman, a veteran trainer whose Hedlund Huskies are descendants of Alaskan huskies that had been bred and trained for use in trap line teams in Alaska. Linda has been a highly popular BOW volunteer instructor for 15 years.

In this class, you will be immersed in Linda’s off-grid lifestyle while learning how to run sled dogs. Fee includes lodging, meals and instruction.


Free Family Webinars

These webinars are part of the Minnesota Outdoor Skills and Stewardship Series that aims to give participants quick, relevant information on upcoming seasons and events, and skills to help enjoy the outdoors.

Becoming an Outdoors Woman Program (BOW)

The BOW program provides hunting, fishing, and non-consumptive outdoor skills classes to women in a safe and supportive environment. BOW works cooperatively with DNR staff, volunteers and outside agencies to provide opportunities for women to learn skills. BOW is guided by a volunteer steering committee.
