This rule covers topics of interest to hunters, wildlife watchers, and landowners including small game hunting, big game hunting and regulations about public hunting land.

The DNR is accepting comments on the rule until 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 22, 2019. Send your comments to jason.abraham@state.mn.us or mail them to the DNR contact person at the address listed below.
What will this rulemaking do?
Most of the proposed changes have been in place as temporary rules for at least one hunting season and some have been in effect for several seasons. This rulemaking will make those temporary rules permanent.
Proposed rule changes include:
- Linking eligibility for future bear hunting licenses to previous rules that require successful hunters to submit a bear tooth sample by mail.
- Making the sandhill crane season in northwest Minnesota permanent. The season has been held since 2010.

- Hunters who use certain wildlife management areas or state game refuges
- Landowners near wildlife management areas
- Landowners who own or live near a state game refuge
- Adults and youth who hunt deer
- Adults and youth who participate in the Camp Ripley archery deer hunt
- Adults and youth who hunt bear
- Bear outfitters who place bait for clients
- Landowners who may be affected by nuisance bears
- Adults and youth who hunt for small game
- Adults and youth who trap long-tailed or short-tailed weasels
- Adults and youth who hunt with falcons
- Adults and youth who hunt for prairie chickens
- Adults and youth who hunt for migratory waterfowl or gamebirds
- Adults and youth who take light geese during the spring harvest
- Adults and youth who hunt crows
