Weakening Atlantic Ocean circulation

Melting ice from Greenland apparently slowing down north Atlantic Ocean currents responsible for releasing heat in the northern hemisphere. This might have big consequences for fisheries and climate around the north Atlantic region.

20 years of the "hockey stick"

The story of an atmospheric scientist who has been vilified because of his findings pointing to unprecedented warming. The story gives an idea of attempts to undermine the credibility of climate scientists, and call for action.

Mille Lacs on the rise as a bass destination

The reputation of Mille Lacs as a smallmouth bass fishing destination is growing. In 2017, it was ranked best bass lake in the U.S. by a fishing magazine, and current harvest looks sustainable. As water temperature raises, the lake's suitability to bass tend to increase.

Human-bear conflict ultimately depends on food

Warming may shorten hibernation and affect bear's food supply, but human-bear encounter may depend on more manageable factors. Diligence to preventing access to human food and attitude towards bears are key to human-bear encounters and conflict.

Can cisco keep up with climate change?

The cisco translocated to inland lakes in the 1920s-1930s still retain most of the traits observed in their source populations on Lake Superior. This slow pace of evolutionary adaptation suggests that cisco may not be able to keep up with climate change.

Value of parks for bird conservation is expected to increase

Protected areas were projected to increase in importance for conservation of birds under climate change. Expected colonization exceeds extirpation in over 60-100% of the parks. The Midwest was projected to experience largest changes in bird communities.

Blanding's turtle problem not solvable through restoration only

The connectivity of the Blanding's turtle habitat in Wisconsin was projected to be greatly reduced with future climate and land use changes, limiting the potential for migration. Restoring connectivity may have limited effectiveness for the species' persistence.

How to raise Americans' trust in climate scientists?

Study found that interest in science during ages 12-14 associates with trust in climate scientists during adulthood. Author suggests that getting pre-teens interested in science may have long-lasting effect on trust in scientists, regardless of political ideology.
