On Oct. 1, 2026, federal law changed who can qualify for federally funded Medical Assistance based on immigration status. Now, noncitizens age 21 or older who are not pregnant must have one of several specific immigration statuses to keep their MA coverage. (Note, children under age 21 who are lawfully present and people who are pregnant regardless of immigration status remain eligible.)
