Substance Use Disorder (SUD) treatment services and outpatient billing changes effective Aug. 1, 2026

SUD treatment services and outpatient billing changes resulting from the 2025 Minnesota Legislative Session will take effect on Aug. 1, 2026. These include many changes that will impact providers whose services include SUD treatment, such as: 

  • New types and descriptions for SUD treatment services for all providers
  • New SUD billing procedure codes and units for outpatient providers

Please join the Minnesota Department of Human Services’ Behavioral Health Administration for a provider-focused session to support programs with these changes.

When: Friday July 10, 2026, from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

Additionally, we will host an extended two-hour Thursday Connections with SUD at DHS meeting July 16, 2026, from 2 - 4 p.m. to thoroughly review the significant legislative changes occurring this summer, including new SUD treatment service types and billing codes, Behavioral Health Fund eligibility, and Recovery Residence certification updates.
