DHS seeks mini-grant applicants for School Based Services implementation, enhancement, and expansion of Medicaid & CHIP mental health services

The Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS), through its Behavioral Health Administration School-Based Team, is seeking applications from qualifying school districts to implement, enhance or expand a sustainable behavioral health services infrastructure within their schools. This grant program will provide seed funding to overcome barriers and develop the necessary framework for delivering and sustaining critical mental health services for students eligible for Medicaid reimbursement.

This grant will prioritize Minnesota rural and tribal school districts with developing, implementing or expanding a robust infrastructure for delivering behavioral health services in schools. Grant funds can be utilized to support qualified providers, establish supervision structures for effective service delivery, enhance telehealth capabilities to expand access to care and implement Medicaid billing systems that support financial stability for behavioral health service models.

Qualifying school districts are Minnesota local education agencies (LEA), including Bureau of Indian Education (BIE) funded schools, as defined in 2 C.F.R. § 303.23 and educational service agencies, as defined in 2 C.F.R. § 300.12, that provide/intend to provide children’s behavioral health services billed by the school’s National Provider Identifier (NPI) number.
