DHS to implement Z Codes for mental health services

The Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) Behavioral Health Division is creating policies and procedures to make the “International Classification of Diseases,Tenth Revision” (ICD-10) Z Codes available to Medical Assistance and Minnesota Care enrolled professionals for use with mental health services. Z Codes can be utilized when there is no evidence of a mental health disorder, yet the member is presenting with significant impairment and is in need of mental health services.

The inclusion of these codes will support more timely access to services for members seeking help and will support the increasing mental health needs of communities throughout Minnesota.
