We are thrilled to announce the addition of six new team members to the SSIS Business Section at DHS.
All new staff have joined us from local agencies in Minnesota over the past three months, each bringing specific SSIS expertise.
- Annie Kamphaus – SSIS Tier 1 Help Desk
- Luanne Groen – SSIS Tier 1 Help Desk
- Andrea Bloom- SSIS System Subject Matter Expert, focus on SSIS Administration
- Holly Reller- SSIS Fiscal SME, focus on Title IVE/CFC
- Ali Tesmer- SSIS System Subject Matter Expert, focus on Child Welfare and federal reporting
- Erica Peterson, SSIS Child Welfare, focus on Intake & Assessment
We have completed review of the following areas of Child Protection work in SSIS: Intake & Screening, Assessment & Investigations, Case Management.
Initial themes from the first three areas of review include:
- User interface is not intuitive, not easy to navigate
- Lack of “statewide architecture” results in barriers to timely best practices in case work, e.g., challenges with statewide case access
- Extensive “workarounds” are necessary on almost every screen, and not clear/documented.
- Inadequate accessibility, g., text size
- Inadequate options supporting person-centered practice e.g., preferred name field, fields for sexual orientation and gender identity/expression- and should be uniform between DHS applications)
- Need for clarification and definitions to guide workers, ensure statewide support of best practices.
- Some requirements feel disconnected from best practices but must be completed to close a workgroup.
CP Placement, CP Kinship, and CP Adoption work will be reviewed over the next six weeks. A comprehensive feedback information meeting will be held in May; details will be in a future Update.
ON Thursday, March 7 at 8:30 AM, the regular meeting of the Minnesota Legislature House Children and Families Finance and Policy Committee will hold time at the beginning of the hearing to discuss SSIS improvements and modernization. Patti Harrelson from MN Prairie County Alliance, Laurie York, Director of White Earth Social Services and Alex Mentes, SSIS Manager will present. The hearing will be broadcast live as well as linked on YouTube after the hearing. House Children and Families Committee
