Important updates on Behavioral Health Division leadership and soliciting help to fill two critical positions

The Minnesota Department of Human Services is pleased to announce that Kristine Preston has been named Deputy Assistant Commissioner for Behavioral Health. Preston has led the Behavioral Health Division on an interim basis for the past year.

Behavioral Health, Housing, and Deaf & Hard of Hearing Services Assistant Commissioner Eric Grumdahl states “I have great excitement about the direction of the Behavioral Health Division under Kristine’s leadership as we work to meet the urgent behavioral health needs of Minnesotans and our partners.” DHS conducted an extensive review process and recruited nationally for the position.

Since last year, Jen Sather has led BHD’s Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Services and now serves as Deputy Director of Substance Use Disorder Services for BHD. She oversees all aspects of SUD services in the division, including the SUD Clinical Policy Team, SUD Reform and Redesign Team, State Opioid Response Team, American Indian Team and the Promotion and Prevention and Early Intervention Team.

BHD also recently hired Diane Neal as Deputy Director of Mental Health. She oversees multiple complex, statewide mental health programs and services for adults, children and families. Neal is focused on both integration and strengthening the continuum of care for Minnesotans, and she provides managerial oversight, leadership and strategic direction for the division’s mental health teams.

DHS is now seeking to fill two additional leadership positions within BHD: Manager of Adult Mental Health Services and Manager of Children & Family Mental Health Services. The agency would appreciate your help recruiting qualified candidates for these important roles.

The Manager of Adult Mental Health Services is responsible for the development, implementation and managerial oversight of multiple, complex adult mental health programs and services. The position will drive strategic initiatives supporting growth, inclusion and increased accessibility to adult mental health programs and services. The job posting for the Adult Mental Health Services manager position is available on the Minnesota Careers website.

The Manager of Children & Family Mental Health Services is responsible for the development, implementation and managerial oversight of multiple, complex children and family mental health programs and services. The position requires deep, substantive knowledge in policies and procedures with statewide significance that impact multiple policy areas of the department, identifying impacts of current and proposed policy and law changes, and recommending and negotiating alternatives that maintain program quality and comply with applicable laws. The job posting for the Children & Family Mental Health Services position is available on the Minnesota Careers website.
