Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) has temporarily suspended authorization thresholds or service limitations for medical assistance fee-for-service claims for psychotherapy effective Jan. 1, 2023. We are temporarily suspending service limitations to help us understand utilization of these psychotherapy services. Providers do not have to submit authorization requests for members between Jan. 1, 2023, and Dec. 31, 2024, for hours or units of service exceeding the following:
- 26 hours psychotherapy (with patient, including biofeedback) per calendar year, cumulative (CPT codes 90832, 90834, 90837, 90875, 90876)
- 26 units of family psychotherapy (with patient or family member or both), per calendar year, cumulative (CPT codes 90846, 90847)
- 10 sessions of multiple family group psychotherapy per calendar year (CPT code 90849)
- 52 sessions of group psychotherapy per calendar year, cumulative (CPT code 90853)
