Information sessions for SBIRT early intervention screening now available

Information Sessions Announced

The Behavioral Health Division is offering four SBIRT (screening, brief intervention, referral to treatment) information sessions for health care professionals to provide an overview of this service and an opportunity to ask questions. All four information sessions will contain similar content and an overview of SBIRT. For dates and meeting links, see information details below.

What is SBIRT?

SBIRT is an early intervention approach used to identify people with substance use disorders as well as those who are at risk of developing these disorders. SBIRT is used to reduce and prevent substance use disorder through the use of screening tools, brief interventions and, if needed, a referral to treatment.

When will SBIRT take effect?

The Department of Human Services (DHS) is implementing SBIRT effective Jan. 1, 2023.
