The next QI training for calendar 2022 is scheduled for Nov. 8 and 9, 2022
The Sept. 7 and 8, 2022 training is cancelled.
We strongly encourage early registration. If fewer than 8 individuals are registered, the training will be cancelled and rescheduled for a later date.
All individuals regardless if they have contracted with the department, county or tribal agencies or are a county employee covered under one of the two federal waivers are required to attend this training to become a certified qualified individual in Minnesota. The department is paying for the training and certification costs at this time with Family First Transition Act funds.
QIs can be licensed clinicians, or community members who will be specifically trained and certified to complete QRTP assessments of children.
This mandatory two-day (9 a.m. to 4 p.m.) virtual training provides qualified residential treatment program (QRTP) assessment policies, processes and trainees would then be required to complete certification on the Commissioner approved Minnesota Child and Adolescent Needs and Strengths (CANS) QRTP assessment tool.
Registration process
Individuals cannot register directly for these trainings. Access to registration is managed by department staff. County and tribal agencies who contract with individuals to provide this service should send an email to ffpsa.qualifiedindividual.DHS@state.mn.us with:

- Confirmation that the individual is not affiliated with a child welfare placing agency or residential treatment program; involved in making placement decisions regarding child/youth involved in the child welfare system, including being a foster parent or guardian ad litem.
If a county has decided to designate county employees to become QI’s or have entered into a regional collaborative agreement with another county or counties, the county point of contact will request registration be sent to the candidates by following instructions using this link: Qualified Individual (QI) waiver instructions for county social service agencies.
