Reduce the spread with free at-home COVID tests

Minnesota Department of Human Services, Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services Division

At-home tests are a helpful tool to reduce the spread of COVID. Depending on where you live, at-home tests may be hard to find at your local pharmacy. Now you can order FREE COVID tests from covidtests.gov to use at home.

It takes about 7-12 days for the U.S. Post Office to deliver the tests. It is a good idea to order at-home test before you need them.

When is a good time to take an at-home test?

  • When you are experiencing cold, flu or COVID symptoms.
  • When someone in your household has tested positive for COVID.
  • Regularly, if you have not been vaccinated yet.
  • Regularly, if your job requires COVID testing.
  • Before spending time with loved ones who have not been vaccinated or are at high risk for severe infection.
  • Before you go to some restaurants or events.

What if I need a test right away?

You can go to a nearby test center, some health care clinics or your local pharmacy. Find testing sites near you on the Minnesota COVID-19 Response website. From the Get Tested menu at the top, click on Find Testing Locations.

You can filter locations by zip code, test type, sites providing American Sign Language interpreters or other accommodations, sites with walk-in testing and more.
