Residential placement for pregnant and parenting youth
Families First Prevention Services Act (FFPSA) created the opportunity for youth and their children to be co-located in specialized residential settings that provide prenatal support, parenting support and education. The children’s residential facility category that specialize in providing prenatal, postpartum and parenting support is referred to as pregnant and parenting youth (PPY).
The Department of Human Services released EPY in Foster Care Practice Guide which is available in eDocs to address the unique needs of pregnant and parenting youth. The practice guide contains information on:
- Responsible social service agency requirements for residential placements
- How facilities become eligible to be a specialized residential setting for pregnant and parenting youth
- Social Service Information System (SSIS) changes to support expecting and parenting youth in foster care.
