Governor Tim Walz has proclaimed September 2020 as Suicide Prevention Awareness Month in the State of Minnesota.
The proclamation states that, “Suicide is a preventable public health issue that requires preventative action, resources, and caring communities.” The Minnesota Department of Health reports that in Minnesota, suicide is the eighth leading cause of death. In 2017, 783 Minnesotans died by suicide, and increase of 5 percent over the previous year.
Suicide Prevention Awareness Month is a reminder that suicide touches families all across Minnesota, and that we all must play a role in preventing suicide.
