Communicating with medical providers

Minnesota Department of Human Services, Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services Division

Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services Division is committed to sharing resources that support communication access during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Many people who are deaf, deafblind and hard of hearing may be wondering about how COVID-19 may affect communication with medical providers.

The National Association of the Deaf (NAD) worked with deaf and hard of hearing advocacy groups, attorneys and deaf medical professionals to develop guidance for communicating. They offer steps you can take to prepare for communication access if you need to go to the hospital. They also have suggestions for various apps and other communication tools.

See the resources on the NAD's webpage Communicating with Medical Personnel During Coronavirus. Additional resources are available for hospitals and medical staff.

You can find more accessible COVID-19 information on Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services Division's COVID-19 webpage.
