Celebrate International Deaf Awareness week with American Sign Language

Minnesota Department of Human Services, Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services Division

From September 20 through September 29, individuals, organizations and agencies are celebrating people who are deaf, deafblind and hard of hearing, and encouraging inclusion as part of International Deaf Awareness week. This year's theme is Sign Language Rights for All, and the United Nations declared September 23 the International Day of Sign Languages.

Learning sign language is a great way to be inclusive!

Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services Division is here to help, with a free Basic Introduction to American Sign Language class. This class is designed for those who work with people who use American Sign Language (ASL), and offers an introduction to a few basic ASL signs and phrases.

You’ll also explore the importance of gestures, and reading facial expressions and body language. Finally, you’ll learn where to find more resources and classes.
