Interim manager to lead DHS Inspector General office

Acting Human Services Commissioner Pam Wheelock today named Bob Jacobson, a seasoned leader with decades of experience in the public sector and law enforcement, to manage the Minnesota Department of Human Services’ Office of Inspector General on an interim basis.

Jacobson will start at DHS on Aug. 5, providing leadership as needed across the agency, starting with the interim assignment. Jacobson is the former director of professional development for the Minnesota Chiefs of Police Association and director of Public Safety for the city of New Brighton.

The new appointment will help support the office as it implements reforms proposed by Governor Tim Walz and approved by the Minnesota Legislature earlier this year.

“Bob understands the role the Office of Inspector General plays in making sure care in licensed programs is safe and that allegations of fraud by providers or recipients are promptly addressed.” Wheelock said. “With Bob’s appointment, the office will have strong, consistent leadership as they implement an ambitious agenda of improvements.”

Jacobson served as a board member for the nonprofit Northeast Youth and Family Services and on the joint powers board for the Suburban Ramsey Family Collaborative. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree in organizational management from Bethel University.

Carolyn Ham, who remains on leave from the position of inspector general, has been reassigned to the DHS Office of General Counsel while an investigation is completed and appropriate action determined.
