On Nov. 20, state officials visited North Education Center, New Hope, to announce $4.9 million in mental health grants to intermediate school districts. This funding helps specialized school districts provide mental health services to children, including those who have experienced trauma. Grants totaling $2.97 million have been awarded to 46 counties and three American Indian tribes to help more people with disabilities have housing of their own through a new initiative from the state of Minnesota. Community Living Infrastructure Grants will go toward a variety of initiatives aimed at helping people with disabilities with housing instability get housing, move out into the community or remain in their own homes. This year’s 21st annual Celebrate Adoption: Circus of the Heart event this month celebrated the 955 children adopted from the state’s foster care system last year and highlight the need for 820 foster children waiting for families. Each year, hundreds of children in the foster care system need adoptive families – relatives and others – to provide safe, loving and nurturing homes. The need is particularly great for siblings who must be adopted together and older youth. Read more in a news release.
