Description

In 2018, the Managed Care Organizations began working on a three-year Performance Improvement Plan aiming to reduce the number of MSHO and SNBC members who become new chronic users of Opioids. What do Care Coordinators need to know about Opioids and working with MSHO and SNBC members to help prevent chronic use? This training is intended to provide information on commonly prescribed Opioids, beneficial uses, problematic uses, and risk factors to consider when working with SNBC and MSHO members.  Practical information will be provided on how to talk with members about their Opioid use, and to identify opportunities to help prevent a new user from becoming chronic user.

Target Audience     MSHO and SNBC Care Coordinators, Case Managers

Learning Objectives

Goal 1:   Participants will acquire a basic understanding of commonly prescribed Opioids and their intended uses.

Goal 2:   Participants will understand the benefits of short-term Opioid use and when continued use can be problematic.

Goal 3:   Participants will identify risk factors that increase the potential of chronic opioid use by MSHO and SNBC members.

Goal 4: Participants will identify strategies on how to discuss Opioid use with members and how to incorporate these discussions into their ongoing work as a Care Coordinator.
