Minnesota Center for Chemical and Mental Health
(MNCAMH) is hosting best-selling author Gabor Maté, M.D., to lead two major
conferences at the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities campus on the impact
of childhood trauma and stress in human development, drug addiction and mental
illness.
On Friday, Jan. 27, Dr. Maté and other experts will
participate in The Biology of Loss: A
Trauma-Informed Perspective in Treating Addiction and Concurrent Disorders. This
full-day conference for practitioners will address the role of trauma and
adverse childhood events on the co-occurrence of substance use disorders and
mental illness. They will explore the individual, historical and systemic
contexts of trauma and its developmental, neurological and relational impact on
people.
This conference is supported by the Minnesota Department of Human Services.
On Saturday, Jan. 28, Dr. Maté will discuss how
early childhood experiences and chronic stress can negatively affect physical
and mental well-being. The all-day event, entitled Trauma and Stress across the Lifespan: Attachment and Healing in
Childhood and Beyond.
Both conferences are relevant to practitioners of
all levels and disciplines and individuals impacted by addiction, trauma,
stress or concerns around parenting. 6
