Specialized Equipment and Supplies T2029 and E1399

The specialized supply and equipment line item T2029 on the waiver service agreement or E1399 on the Alternative Care service agreement requires a description of the item(s) for claim payment.  The description is compared to the claim and if it does not match, the claim is denied.  Please see the MHCP manual instructions on this process Waiver and AC Programs – Specialized Supplies & Equipment Authorization & Billing Responsibilities .  

To assist in avoiding unnecessary claim denials, please be very specific regarding the item(s) authorized and indicating a reason for the item if it possible another funding source could have paid for it.  An example is instead of writing “life chair” which Medicare or MA may pay for the mechanism, identify the part of the lift chair that is authorized.  Use the DHS Comment Screen if more room is needed than what can be placed on the line item Service Description field.
