Insider Tips:

How to Ace an Interview

Congratulations, you have landed the interview! Now...how do you prepare?

Interviewers routinely include questions on leadership skills, not only to evaluate a candidate’s ability to navigate difficult circumstances, but also to gauge character.
Well-prepared candidates prepare in advance: come to the interview equipped with at least two examples of your leadership and character. Include a description of the situation, the actions you took to identify and implement solutions, the results, and what you learned from the experience.

Job Search Tool Spotlight: eFolio

eFolio Example

Searching for a job in today’s highly technical world might feel intimidating for  jobseekers with limited computer experience, but it doesn't have to be! Free resources are available to help learn and access online tools.  Visit the North or South Workforce Center to take a computer class or use the computer lab.  Once you are comfortable with your skills, you can get your resume and portfolio online like Joseph Schufman did and get noticed by employers looking to hire!

After 23 years with a national telecommunications company, Joseph Schufman took a generous buyout package and signed a non-compete contract that prohibited him from working for another telecom for a year. While waiting for the year to end, Schufman, 64, created two web-based tools — an eFolio Minnesota site and a LinkedIn account — to showcase his career accomplishments.

"It took four hours for me to create an eFolio site, and that became my website," says Schufman. "By having it on LinkedIn, I could tell that many people who viewed my profile also went to my website. It's a great tool."

Efolio is a free Minnesota resource that allows you to create a showcase of your education, skills, career achievements, and personal experience.  It’s an online portfolio that employers can browse to learn more about you once you have applied for a job to decide if they want to interview you!
